Robbe Blue Star
« on: June 22, 2017, 12:06:16 pm »

Any Blue Star owners out there ? I was sailing mine last week and it sounded a bit noisier than usual which I think is due to lack of lubrication. I think the jet drive unit is actually a Kehrer KMB Jet 28 - can anyone confirm this please ? If so the KMB 28 instructions say the impeller shaft can be lubricated through hole A where it says there is a grease nipple which I cannot detect . I do not want to have to disassemble the drive system if I can avoid it. I will be very pleased to have  any advice and / or experienced comment.

Can you post some photos of the drive unit?  :-)

Martin a photo wouldn't show the detail. I've attached a diagram of the unit.
Thanks

The bit labelled 'Schmernippel' is through where you apply grease to the prop shaft.

Thanks for your reply, how did you go about it ? . Did you access the bearing by removing components from the stern end or take the motor out? I fitted a new motor in 2010 and I remember it as a very difficult job.

Hi Sonparc,

I had to remove the motor (which took forever due to one of the bolts).

After removing the prop I knocked the bearing out. when putting it back together I put a tube where the small hole is on the outer casing for oiling.

I have a spare prop i think if needed.

Just a thought, I found Kehrer very good at supplying spares ordered from their web-site.
Cheers
Jim :-))
