Yes, they do make you sweat. At least for me! It was so bad I threw it out and bought a Sealy 'Cunarder' mattress last year and now I sleep better than I have ever done.  :-))

Can't help you with this one Gordon as I've never tried one.

I've altered the thread title to reflect the subject better for any replies.

Gordon,

Depends what type you want, soft, medium or firm. I'm not sure memory foam is what is cracked up to be though.

We also need a new mattress. The most comfortable one I have I have slept on in recent years was on boar Cunard' s Queen Mary 2. You can buy their mattresses online which are made by Sealy so we have ordered one of those. They are classified medium/firm. I see that Nemo has also posted recommending the Cunarder one.

Link here: https://shop.sealy.co.uk/cunard/

The ones in Premier Inns are quite good too and a bit cheaper: http://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/why/sleep/buy-our-bed.html

Of course mattress comfort is a personal thing but we have slept on both of those for several nights which is better than bouncing around in a shop trying to make up your mind which one is best.

Memory foam seems to be a not so cheap, cheap alternative to a proper mattress. I have mostly seen them used as mattress toppers, for the super hard mattresses we get in China. I also see a lot of people selling them off, second hand, in the classified ads.
A quality mattress is going to cost what seems a lot, but probably less than the price of a cup of tea per day in a cafe, for the next year and a good mattress will last 10. Considering we spend 1/3 of our lives on one, it is worth paying for a good one.

We have had a memory foam matters 1st generation one from Tempa for over 12 years no complaints at all ,best buy and has not detreated on the edge at all .
When I was in the hotel maintenance  game the preferred mattress was Hypnos Hotel grade .
However it is all down to personal choice ,get round the shops and have a test .
(there is not much bounce in the foam type  ,but I am past all that .)

You can buy a "topper" cheaply. These are just an inch or two of foam that you put over your own mattress. That way you can try cheaply.
The memory foam mattresses only have memory foam for the top inch or three.

Everything and anybody.  Especially if the pictures make it to sociable media.
