I would pop over to Kirklees next year and soak up all the combined experience, see some models steamed up and running, may be even ask to watch as someone takes their model from dry and cold to steamed up and ready for the water and then once you have done all that, go home, sit down, write out all the procedures and see if it makes sense and then if you feel happy give it a go.
If you leave your model at home then you have no way of being tempted to run before you can walk.
I can see the point of having the model there so you can interpret which control does what by seeing similar or maybe even identical steam layouts at Kirklees. Different systems may have different layouts of valves and pipes, and your father may have designed his own, thus making it unique.
