Lady Elizabeth
« on: August 27, 2017, 01:04:16 pm »

Thought I would put up a few pics of a boat my late father gave me. Built by K Townsend, the Lady Elizabeth steam launch.
Utterly beautiful in every detail, the mans work is outstanding.
Far to scared to take her out, so she sits under glass so i can see it everyday and think of my late great father.

For your pleasure.

My father did once, but never got her on the water.
I am to ham fisted to attempt to steam her up, but hopefully if i can get to see some steam powered boats out and about it may give me the confidence to go for it. But she is in pristine condition and would hate to muck her up....... :embarrassed:

Next year Kirklee's will be having their annual steam day and I'm going to get some advice and talk through general steam issues that I may have.

Why not take it there Stewart?  I'm sure they would be more than happy to help  :-))

She is a thhing of beauty Stew. I agree with Mark. I would pop over to Kirklees next year and soak up all the combined experience, see some models steamed up and running, may be even ask to watch as someone takes their model from dry and cold to steamed up and ready for the water and then once you have done all that, go home, sit down, write out all the procedures and see if it makes sense and then if you feel happy give it a go.

If you leave your model at home then you have no way of being tempted to run before you can walk.

I can see the point of having the model there so you can interpret which control does what by seeing similar or maybe even identical steam layouts at Kirklees. Different systems may have different layouts of valves and pipes, and your father may have designed his own, thus making it unique.
