Getting the hull to a point of completion and starting to think about the upper works. Really pleased with the kit and although some of my work is not quite as I would like it things seem to be coming together.

I was afraid that the cabin would turn out to be a bit flimsy, but such is the quality of the kit that it is rock solid when glued together. Also it  nestles  in position very neatly and just slides into position, like pulling on a comfortable old wellington boot.

Had a spot of bother with the kit piece of ply to fprm the hood for the exhaust stack. The ply just did not want to take up the shape required now matter how I tried. In the end I made the hood out of brass sheet and soldered it . Still took me several attempts to get the paint to an acceptable standard

Merry Christmas Baldrick.......assuming that the propeller is as supplied in the kit, however looks a little small for the hull contour cavity.....Derek

Thanks Derek and I wish the same to you down there in the nether regions.
It is a replacement prop, the one out of the box was a rather nasty plasticy thing all frayed around the edges. Although of the same diameter (40mm) it is not totally to my satisfaction. I got it on the web and it is a fabricated one with flat blades rather than cast with some nice shape to the body, may swap it later.
Best wishes for the coming year, don't bother returning our cricket team .

Cheers Neil.
Amazing what can be achieved over Christmas with the goggle box output achieving it's usual dismal standard.
One problem is in using a phone camera the short lens FL gives divergence distortion , the stanchions are all upright. Must stop being lazy and dust off the Canon.

I thought for interests sake I might try the laser level I bought some time back from Lidl to see how it worked in setting the waterline. Seems to work quite well . May use it in the future rather than the pencil and block of wood.

Found the vertical axis projection useful for getting the mast aligned square to the waterline rather than just the deck. Will now glue it into it's stool . Photograph makes it look a bit pi$$ed due to the parallax of the lens

believe it or not, baldrick, the waterlines on trawlers were not usually straight.

always painted with a roller brush on the slip way, they were usually painted, unless new from the builders yard, and the "water line" followed usually the underside of the second row of plates so ran basically parallel to the bulwark tops, and then at the bow and stern would taper down towards the sea giving a very odd shape waterline indeed.

it can be seen on these three shots of trawlers, and this fine model of a friend of mine.

so don't worry if you don't get it straight, lol.

Hi Baldrick. Could I ask does this look complete to you? I have checked the main ply sheets are there

I guess so Andy.   I remember thinking when I first opened my box that it looked a bit scant for what I was expecting and the box was not sellotaped shut, but it was all there. . The rather minuscule plastic prop will probably be hiding inside the lifeboat. The prop was the only thing I can recall replacing (with a brass one)  You might consider one a few mm larger as well .

Thanks for that  :-))

I bought one quite a while ago on eBay that was pre lasering and a lot of the sheets were mahogany. I got a full refund for that.

So the absence of mahogany sheets threw me a bit but it seems to be complete and was described as reduced due to box damage to £249 , then because I showed interest I got a message that I could by it for £190 so I offered £150 and it was accepted  :-)

Regarding the prop on Nordkap, I replaced the plastic original on mine with a similar sized brass prop, but later upgraded that one to a slightly larger diameter. This gave a much better performance, not fast but more responsive steering.
