When you are the subject of a corporate takeover..
« on: October 17, 2017, 02:10:20 pm »

What happens to the stuff left over in the old offices??

This is the empty Farstad HQ after being incorporated by the Solstad group. Sad to see, I hope they went to good homes.

There might not be all that much interest given that the models were associated with the old organisation. When you think about it, how many people would be interested I wonder?

It's like art it's only worth what someone is prepared to pay for them, but just for the top quality models they are I would say £1k each wouldn't be far off the mark but it depends on how many people where really interested

I think the issue is the subject matter. If the models were of well known ships like the QE2 they would be snapped up but a utiltarian working vessel will attract a lot less interest from the general market (such as it is).

Phone and write to the new company and show interest in 'clearing the old models out for them'.

I bet they go for peanuts .
They will be sold in an auction and I would guess not many modellers will know about the auction . A model of the Stena Fantasia once sold at auction . Could not believe how little it made . Had I know I would have paid more .
If they want top money stick them on ebay .

I have a had a quick look to see if the name farstad and office contents auction turned anything up but I found nothing. Would the company spend money to have the models shipped out of country? If not I assume they would be auctioned off in Spain.

I just thought, Did you take the photo or upload it from another source, because they may be miles from where you are Brian!

As already suggested, calling the company might show if they are just sat in a store room. Although the company might not have a mechanism for selling off what is effectively office furniture, they may be willing to part with them if you offer to make a donation to a company sponsored charity or RNLI.
If no one at the company seems to know anything, contract their PR person, there may be a local news story angle for them to exploit.

my dad worked for sealink, when they changed hands he rescued all sorts from the skip - no models, but boxes and boxes of slides, oil paintings of the ships etc, photographs (and the original negatives) rolls of ship plans. he also managed to stop them taking down a huge painting in the board room that was worth hundreds of thousands (by a famous artist) and just dumping it (though his shed wasnt big enough for that one).
He is currently one of the leading sources for people writing books on sealink, for rare photos, and other trivia about the company, and other leading ferry companies in the uk.

Builders models of ships in cases tend to be solid blocks of wood rather than a hollow hull, so not a lot of good for anybody to make into a working model ,unless they were stripped and used as plugs for mounds.

No it was from a shipping group on facebook. Solstad (and Farstad) are Norwegian companies I believe.
