My Speedline Shannon class build
« on: October 22, 2017, 07:21:13 PM »

In for a penny.
Starting this thread in anticipation of my 1/12 kit  :-))
Pictures from Blackpool of a 1/12 under construction.
Adrian & Terry are very nice to deal and talk to.
I anticipate this should be a dream to build compared to my Portgarth  O0

I hope it handles like this

I couldn’t Dave but wifey pulled her wedge out bless her
Adrian really impressed her with his in depth explanations and she was looking at me out of the corner of her eye as if to say what are you waiting for  {-)

Got two sat in my front room just waiting for the jets to be finished before they go off to a very lucky Irish man in Canada, one at 1:16th and one at 1:12 scale......

............and just looking at them now and then gives me an enormous sense of pride that we have such wonderful model engineers who can produce such excellent models for us mere mortals to buy and build.

yes, maybe, but what an unbelievably beautiful job you are making of it......that woodwork on the main superstructure is just amazing........it deserves to be left unpainted just to show the workmanship that went into it.

I do Colin regularly, sadly knowing that they'll be leaving my home for far away cold climes shortly.

Thank you very much for those most kind words Neil  :-))
Colin yes I'm looking forwards to it too very much and I should have it before Xmas all being well but I won't beat Adrian up if its late  O0 <*< {-)

Edit
This build should be very useful to all would be Speedline builders especially lifeboats in particular as I know nothing! and have it all to learn. So lets do it together  :-)

As with my Rotterdam and Portgarth the first thing is to make a suitable stand but as the scratch building element is almost entirely removed from this superlative kit I will go straight to producing a display stand to fit that perfect hull perfectleeeee  :-)

The Shannon is so popular that there is a plethora of videos in HD on you tube with some very good close ups of finer details inside and out.  :-)

With some great help given in the other Shannon thread  :-))  thanks Kinmel.
NOTE this is a 1/12th version with 1250KV brushless motors.

I have purchased what I think to be suitable brushless ESC's /3S batteries/Servos and a programmer.

Re the above. If you prefer just to buy half the connector you can get these from component shop but make sure you buy using the picture as a guide and not the description! as Ian insists on referring to male and female contradictory to every other seller.

My plan when I get kit delivery is to go straight for a working model and see how it performs and what changes may be needed if any. To me that is the most exciting part  :-)  The detail and painting can jolly well wait  {-)

My purchase today is a quality 35mm thin wall cutter by starrett £15.15 delivered. There’s more than one way to skin a cat but this is the easy option.

I look forward to watching this build, it promises to draw upon the skills of many in our community as it moves along.

The Shannon is a new direction for Speedline; much less of a challenge, but with all the quality of the previous kits.

Like others, I am pushing on with the build without the safety net of drawings and build instructions, so it will be interesting to see the different approaches  we each bring to the project.

The brushless motors come with 3.5mm bullet connectors so I've just ordered these three way connectors from components shop
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122185970277

Bear in mind that those 90amp ESC's come with no connections at all

I wonder does anyone know if the jet drive impellers are both the same handed? I imagine they are.

I'm also going to order a couple of sheets of paxolin 3mm & 4mm I'm sure I will use it

Another purchase thinking ahead. I believe I can make good use of the AA mixer in mode 1 which will not reverse the motors but will slow one down in turns proportionate to the steering nozzles P40e Marine Motor Mixer ACTion Electronics®

If along the path of learning it turns out to be less than ideal it will just go in the bits drawer for future
