Arun anchors.
« on: November 26, 2017, 11:50:04 am »

I'm currently building the MBD Arun lifeboat as 52-10 Soldian, the Lerwick boat. Does anyone have any information on the anchor stowage arrangement on the foredeck? I have the DVD from Kim but all the 52 foot boats photographed have one anchor on the rigid rails and the other flat on the deck or attached to the outer handrails. These appear to be resting on what look like steel deck protectors. 52-10 does not have these protectors and the toe rails on the foredeck are continous. This begs the question, do the earlier boats have both anchors lashed to the rigid foredeck rails? Any help would be much appreciated!

Photo here shows two standard pattern fisherman’s anchors mounted to the railings.

The anchor on the starboard side lies in and on the "Cat", a bit of equipment to facilitate the use of same, like a horizontal davit in use. nemesis

I was told by the then mechanic when I built the Kirkwall Arun 52-39 that the Scottish Aruns had both anchors standing up.
think it was the preferance of the area inspector at the time.

I would not be surprised, it might make it easier to handle. It was a bit of a pig to handle, and that was on exercise never mind having to do it for real. nemesis
