Just arrived today, very impressed with the quality and sharpness of the parts. IMO it’s actually better than the 1/72 version due to the detail especially in 1/144! The only bits I might change are the hand rails but might not depending on how they look in position. The only things I need to scratch build is the minesweeping winch and the acoustic hammer.  :-))

Group Build! Revell's Flower Class Corvette.
« Reply #31 on: December 07, 2017, 06:12:42 pm »

For those not familiar with the concept of the "Group Build" Someone (in this case, Klunk) suggest a subject and anyone who wants to join in build and presents a version of the suggested kit.
In this instance the kit suggested was the new 1/144th scale offering of the Flower Class Corvette by Revell Gemany.

So far, we've got 5 participants, including myself.

Martin - HMS Klunk, K144 (actually HMS Meadowsweet)
Klunk -  USS Saucy, PG-65 (subject to acceptance)
raflaunches - K111, HMS Pennywort
tonyH -  USS Impulse PG68 Ex. HMS Begonia
TailUK - HMS Honeysuckle K27

Anyone who wants to take part, can!  I thought it might be fun to try and get as many models of different ships as possible.  So let us know which Corvette you fancy building and we'll add it to the list.  Remember there are over a hundred to choose from and several navies too.
Canada, the UK, the USA, the Dutch, Norwegian and Danish to name just a few.  Including the Kriegsmarine and the Irish Naval Service.
Any questions?

The Royal Australian Navy has long been known for doing things on it's own terms.  When offered Corvettes they apparently, like Goldilocks, couldn't find a design that was "just right". They chose to use a Minesweeper design and designated them corvettes, the first being HMAS Bathurst.  the class served with distinction upholding the proud traditions of the RAN.

I put you down for USS Saucy as you came up with idea and it's one of the kit options.  Martin has expressed a preference for K144 (Meadowsweet) so HMCS Snowberry is available too. Let  me know your preference.

I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't a Royal navy option in the kit, 1 USN and 1 Canadian Navy but no RN corvette.

I received my 1/144th scale Corvette this lunch time and was dismayed to find that it only offers one build option not two as I was given to understand. So it's HMCS Snowberry or find your own transfers.
Flower class Corvettes were amongst the most iconic British warships alongside Ark Royal and "the Mighty Hood" to have a kit with no Royal Navy option is a bit thin.

There quite a bit of information around the Internet on Flower Class Corvettes,  loads of pictures and a lot of kit builds to be looked at.

For references the best site is
http://www.cbrnp.com/RNP/Flower/contents.htm

Here are articles about Corvettes and lists of ships, all in all an interesting site, worth bookmarking.
Among the books on their list of recommended reading are.

Conway's Anatomy of the Ship; "The Flower Class Corvette-HMS Agassiz"
Ensign 3; Flower Class Corvette.

Another great book for modeller is the
Shipcraft Special "Flower Class Corvettes"

All of these books can be found to download at the following

Hi Klunk

Surely the ship at Whyalla is a Bathurst - the Australian version of a Bangor? Though, come to think of it, they did muddy the waters by referring to them as corvettes.

Bogger! Misread your post.
