Help finding information
« on: November 28, 2017, 05:25:34 pm »

Found these pictures on the Mayhem Forum a while back and cannot find the thread or post again. Does anyone have information of the pictured boat below?

Given the dimensions are given in metres and the caption are German I suggest it's an German, African Lake steamer. Possibly a Nile Paddler?

Thanks for the reply!

Great idea. I found the pictures originally here on this forum. Hoping someone remembers where on this forum. Tried a few searches ("African" "Lake steamer", ETC) to no avail.

Thinking about it, it's reminiscent of a model paddler called Lulonga which was loosely based on a Congo river paddler.

I don't think that is a model drawing. Agree that it is probably a German lake steamer.

Thanks for the suggestions. The pictures of the Lulonga from the PD site has a similar drive and was helpful. Wish I could find a picture/drawing of the boat from the aft end. I can build a reasonable facsimile with just the two pictures, but any more detail would be appreciated!

I'm troubled by the steering arrangement shown.  it appears to show the rudder posts with 90 degree cranks on the top and chains around a capstan like wheel but this arrangement would allow one of the chains to go slack as the rudders moved.

Puzzled by that too. I see it was discussed on this (French?) site: http://forum-naval.star-ac.org/t1875-bateau-a-roue on post 19.

I should note - the pictures were from the above forum. But I found them originally here MBM (as best as my aged mind can remember). I thought there was at least one or two more picture associated to this boat.
