1/12th Speedline Severn railings
« on: November 29, 2017, 07:23:06 pm »

Hi All

I have reached the stage of making the railings for my Severn. For the bow railings I used 3.3mm rod that came with the kit but I don't think there is sufficient to do all the railings, along with the 3.3mm rod came half a dozen long lengths of 2.7mm rod. So my question to others who have built the kit is which did you use and where or will I have to try and find some more 3.3mm rod?

No personal experience but I think generally the thicker rod is for the top rail and the thinner rod for the lower rails?

Looking at photo's of the real thing each of the railing sections appear to be made of the same thickness material.

If the rod came with the kit and you ran out it would suggest to me that you used the wrong rod for the wrong purpose?

I imagine the best source of the same size rod is Speedline

I think if you google k&s brass, you'll find what you want.....1/8th " = 3.3mm and you can buy it in 300mm or 1000mm lengths

think that's where Adrian told me he got his lengths from....the same supplier as k&s.

I only got 12 gauge rod with my kit and like you I am running out. Having used most of the 12 gauge (2.65 mm). I had a look for more 12 gauge brass and failed to find any. I will have another try to source some shortly. I thought the size had to be correct because it came with the kit. If anyone can suggest a source I would be grateful.

Hi Les

Thanks for your reply. I am now going to use the 2.7mm rod to do the rest of the railings. The standard mounting bosses have 2.7mm holes so it makes sense to use that size but I still can't work out why I have all that 3.3mm rod
