lite ply and birch faced ply
« on: January 04, 2018, 05:09:31 pm »

I bought some 4mm ply for the laying down of my next model plug today,

And whilst foraging around the timber yard, I came across some 3.5mm birch faced ply in size 8' x 4 [2440 x 1220mm] at £26.75 + vat per sheet, and lite ply in  1.5mm or 3.0mm x 5' x 5' [1524mm x 1254mm] also at £26.75.

I reckon this is cheap compared with model shops or web site prices........what do others think.

'Your' 3.5mm birch ply works out at £1.00/sq.ft for 3.5mm birch and 3mm Liteply at £1.28 - both incl VAT.
SLEC's prices are respectively £0.73 for 4mm birch and £0.89 for 3mm liteply, but there's a delivery charge on those prices. All prices calculated at the most economical sheet size.
I've not bought any ply in a model shop since the Beatles split up, but I do remember seeing some fairly recently in 2' x 1' sheets at a show and wondering if the supplier could arrange finance...
