Revell 1/72 Herman Marwede
« on: January 13, 2018, 07:59:38 pm »

hi all I’m a bit farther on in this build as I’ve not been able to post pics for a while on here but with my new iPad is seems to be working again (my missus and our friends have been trying to convert me for ages)(its still slower and requires more clicks to post pics than my Samsung but at least it works)
Anyway here is where this is now, I intend to put it in a dio with not as rough a sea as my last lifeboat.

what do you make your base from kp, and do you brace the insides of the hull so it doesn't flex about at the bottom..

She's coming along really fine. Excuse my ignorance, but do we have such large lifeboats? I can see the point of having large ones for deeper sea rescue etc.

Loverly Ken  :-))

Hi all made the crane for lifting the small rescue boat, I must say I'm very pleased with how this bit turned out (shame about the rest of it)

Ok well I've finally decided on the base for this, first I thought I would have a surfer washed out to sea but I thought this is a German equivalent of the RNLI then I thought are there any surfing beaches in Germany and anyway they wouldn't send a huge ship like this out for a surfer would They? Then I thought what about someone on a lilo but cancelled that idea for the same reasons what about a sinking ship no the dio would have to be huge. Then the kernel of an idea came to me a ww2 air show and maybe there's a mid air collision or engine trouble and the pilot had to ditch but for some reason the canopy wouldn't open so he couldn't bail out. Thunderbirds to the rescue (FAB Virgil thunderbirds are go) sorry got carried away there.
I'm going to use the fw190 from the warspite dio as the ditched plane, here's a mock up of how it may look

Added some more railings and some lights to the tower

Maybe now I've got the base worked out I may enjoy the build a bit more.

I don't know how old the kit is, but I know that some of their older kits are more basic and do feel more toy like. But this is coming along nicely. Does it feel too light? Some models benefit from a bit of heft, it gives a feeling of weight. I like my tanks for war gaming to be in pewter rather than plastic for that reason.
