Fake Swans
« on: January 15, 2018, 11:36:39 pm »

Via BBC News
"Robot swans are taking to the waters of Singapore in order to test the quality of its reservoirs' drinking water, it's reported. According too an Asian news site, five fake birds are being set loose on reservoirs serving the city state to monitor water quality as part of the aptly named SWAN project (Smart Water Assessment Network).
They've been designed to look like real swans so that they'll blend in with their surroundings, the news website says. While gracefully drifting along on the surface, underneath is a system of propellers and water sampling equipment, and they use wireless technology to send real-time results to national water agency PUB."
Looking at the underwater picture it looks like fake news as well!  %%

Hi, I know the prop is more applicable for aircraft, but I was watching a teckie show where you saw a drone land in the water and continue under water with big props but running slowly then take off again and fly.  It was for real as it was some sort of drone contest.  So it could be correct, but will the swans fly?

Could be interesting if a territorial male spots them.

We have a pair of Swans at Black Park that aggressively see off any other swans that arrive.  We also have a very realistic RC model swan with turning neck/head.  However the real swans ignore it.  they can tell the difference between a plastic model and arriving Cobs looking for a willing Pen.
