Brede

Good Morning All

I have just started to transfer the measurements for the cut outs on the hull shaft/rudder etc. from the RNLI drawings that I have and find that the rudder posts do not fall directly in line C/L to C/L but in fact the rudders are to the outside of the shaft C/L,.

Can anyone tell why this is so, is it to aid turning and if so would/should I use CW and CCW props ???

Regards
Mike

Probably to facilitate removal of shafts
without disturbing rudders/steering gear.

The offset is standard practice for RNLI lifeboats. As Ned said it enables the shaft to be removed when needed without dismantling the rudder gear. The props need to be a 'handed' pair and should rotate outwards for forward propulsion when viewed from the stern.

Ned, Mike

Thank you both for that, how simple it seems when you know the answer.

Handed props it is then.

The props need to be a 'handed' pair and should rotate outwards for forward propulsion...

Perhaps I am a little slow, but does this mean the top of the prop is moving outwards or the bottom?

And what difference does it make?
