« on: February 22, 2018, 03:19:45 pm »

Hello Folks,

As the title suggests, Balne Moor MBC will hold it's first event of the season on Sunday 4th March.
It will be an informal sail and all boats are welcome and equal.  There will be no sailing fee.

So if you want to check out your winter build, now's your chance :-))

Things will start at about 10.30a.m. Hot sandwiches, cakes and hot and cold drinks will be available.

For the sat nav - DN14 0ER

I will check with the Club members Martin, but we do have our own event at the pond on the Sunday.

It's a bit of a long haul to come for a day on Saturday, but we'll see.

  Hi Mike and Poll,
        Looking at the weather (2 inches of snow in Southport this morning and 1c) it may be an idea to put back the sail for a week, forecast here is dreadful and definitely not motorbiking weather. Good luck.
      Cheers, Pete. {:-{

A very sensible decision Pete :-))   I wouldn't travel that distance in a car this weather.
It could be potentially lethal on two wheels, on a motorcycle, I'm not commenting on your driving :}
We can catch up at a future event.

Hopefully the April tug tow will bring better weather.

Hi again Mike n Tess n Poll,
       Its borderline 1/0 C here right now with a feels like -7C. Up to sunday its worse, the temperature will,allegedly, be around 4/5C with a feel of 2C so its not a day to be stood around. Just to brighten your day or make you laugh I can remember in the 70's when the new registration was 1st of January my mate was collecting a new Norton Commando from Bill Smiths in Aigburth on the 1st we rode there in around 2/3 inches of snow and big flakes coming down. John was on a Triumph Bonneville I was on my Triton with clip ons to steer with, interesting indeed my dad said we were nuts.
        See you both when you get back.
             Cheers, Pete. :-))
P.S. Neither of us fell off but boy did we have some slides!

Yes, the only road accident I ever had with a motorbike was sliding off on black ice
and ending up pirouetting on the handlebars.

After that I decided trials riding was safer, the mud was softer :}

   Hi Mike,
       Not sure about that Trials riding malarkey a good few years ago I had a break from road racing (National licence holder, Club Champion) bought a 350 Bultaco and hurt myself more in two seasons than any of the years racing including a get off at Cadwell high speed into the Gooseneck totally destroyed my TZ but thankfully no broken bones just lost a fair amount of bark from my forearm, still have the scars.
    Probably my fault for entering the Denby & Mold trial as a first event with tyre pressures of 20 front and 26 rear I eventually realised that all the other riders bikes had flat tyres. Peter Salt (Cheshire champion at the time) sorted me out after he had stopped laughing.
     Cheers, Pete. <:(

Yes, we used the same soft tyre technique when trialing Land Rovers.
The soft tyres worked really well, but it took a lot out of the compressor getting four 33 inch tyres back up to road pressures %%

Yes, just checked my e-mails.

Unfortunately the "Beast from the East" has beaten us.
We usually have a bit too much water early season, but this time it is frozen!  We can sail in deeper water but we don't have any hovercraft in the Club!
If anyone follows Balne Moor yachting, the lake at Askern is OK and yachting events will continue there.

  Thanks for the update Mike we'll definitely be at Balne for the April meeting with the tugs (bit awkward to get the Pegasus on the back of a bike) so look forward to seeing you all again.

Hi Mike

We were waiting to make a last minute decision about travelling across on Sunday but the ice has made for us.

Looking forward to next month's event (and warmer weather )

Hi Tim,
Yes, it's the first time we've had to cancel an event in my time at the Club!

Hopefully, as you say, we can catch up in April in better weather.

Regards

Michael and Tess
