Aerokits Sea Rover plans
« on: March 12, 2018, 09:29:39 pm »

Hi all,

I have obtained an Aerokits Sea Rover model but most of the front cabin is damaged and has parts missing so I am after a set of plans so I can restore her. If anybody has a set or knows where I could buy a set I would be grateful.

Thanks

Word of warning!

I bought a set of plans off Ebay for an Aerokits Fairey Swordsman and the quality of the templates was awful.

The copy of the Aerokits top and side views were fine as they were from the original kit drawings but the templates were very badly drawn/traced being unsymmetrical and inaccurate. The printing may "be to a very high standard" but the hand drawing certainly isn't!

They were so bad as to be unusable and I redrew them using a drawing program.

Fairly sure it was the same guy selling them, I'll try and check.

I think Canabus has the Sea Rover drawings?

A couple of examples. Look at the cut-outs in T1 - doesn't inspire confidence!

On initial inspection some of the others didn't look too bad but once I'd started copying them and doing a mirror image I realised how out of symmetry they were. Not saying you couldn't build from them but it would be harder work than it should be and lots of tweaking.

I also bought a set of Veron Huntsman 28 plans which were just as bad. Got them before I'd started on redrawing the Swordsman ones so hadn't twigged the poor quality.

At least I was able to use the original Aerokits and Veron kit drawings to produce the hull frames etc.

Hi Neil

Don't worry mate you weren't to know and I didn't purchase any so think I may have a go at drawing them myself referencing from some photos I have as it's only the front cabin section that's damage
Thanks all.

Neil, as Korp says you weren't to know. You wouldn't until you actually got them.

Who knows, the Sea Rover ones could be very good but on the basis of probability probably not.
