rotation of props
« on: March 16, 2018, 05:51:59 pm »

Hi All
twofold query please
On my Mersey Lifeboat I have 2 motors and 2 props. Should they be contra rotating, and if so should they turn inwards or outwards?
Thanks

They rotate outwards Mick.

In your picture the left prop should turn anticlockwise and the right prop clockwise.

Thanks for that Mike.
Next problem is to get them tuned into my planet radio, the left hand one goes in reverse when I put the stick forward, and the right hand one doesnt go in reverse!
Dont want to alter the switches on the radio,as they are set up for all my other boats,so have to try swapping some wires around I guess

The Aldeburgh Mersey is the same - as you would expect.

Mick, yes, try swapping some wires around, can be a bit fiddly but better than messing with the TX settings as you say.

You need to swap the wires on one motor if you are using one speed controller. With contra rotating props one motor is always running 'backwards'

Thanks Colin and Dougal,
I have actually got independent speed controllers in this one both Viper 15s.Just don't understand why there is no reverse on the stbd motor anyway!

Evening, is one of the controllers ONLY giving you control in one direction then?

Have you tried recalibrating the errant ESC as per the Mtroniks instructions? If so and it still doesn't work properly there may be a fault in the unit in which case best to check with Mtroniks.

For a few years you could reprogram the speed control to disable reverse, problem was, it was easy to do this when you didn't mean to. So, you either have a speed control with reverse disabled, or you have a duff speed control. Cannot quite remember the set up procedure for that part of the programming.
