HMS LIVERPOOL BUILD
« on: March 13, 2018, 09:54:25 PM »

Hello I have just started a new build of a 1/96 scale type 42 hms Liverpool,  I was originally going to build d89 hms exeter but after some research I preferred The later version with the phalanx and other mods , I have made a start on the main superstructure whilst I am waiting for the hull from Barry at sirmar I am
using the jecobin plans but it only shows the ship as she was in 1983 I want to do her in here last year's

Welcome to the forum David, and what a start you have made  :-)) The superstructure looks very crisp and clean. I cannot wait to see more.

Hello David, welcome to the forum, I'm also building a T42. Mines HMS York, one of the batch 3 versions in 1/72 scale. I have just started to build the superstructure and have been pondering over how to create the curve at the front of the superstructure, how did you tackle this on your build? regards jon

hello ,yes I have been watching your build looks superb. the curve on the superstructure wasn't as bad as I thought . this is what I did
first I traced the 2 sides and the upper deck and transferred them to 1.5mm sheet .then looking at the plan view of the ship on the plans I position the 2 sides with the deck on top of the plans
then in line with the straight sections of the bridge wings I cut a rectangle section and joined the 2 superstructure sides together then with the assembly back in position trace  the lower curve
and make a piece that goes back to the rectangle section and glue in place whilst it is sat on the plan . then if you look at the down on the plan on the upper deck you will see the upper curve
about 2mm in from the front of the bridge I did the same again . traced and made a piece and glued it to the underside of the deck and back to the rectangle section this gives you the angle
then I glued a 1mm section to the curves and filled the end curves in with squadron filler. it is much easier then it is to explain .look at radiojoes hams Coventry build that is what I copied
hope this helps

Bit more progress the bridge is quite a challenging shape had a few attempts before I was happy, next is the olimpus filters
Still struggling to find any detailed photos of the ship as it was in her final Configuration
