Rather worrying- hope they are okay. What concerns me is that there were two onboard which indicates that the individual in the back seat is going to be an engineer. I’ve got a few mates on the Arrows fingers crossed everyone is okay.

It's on the news now.
Sadly the back seat guy didn't make it.
RIP

No, there is a slight time delay to prevent both seats hitting each other. And it also depends on the selection switch in the rear cockpit- if was selected to Both, the rear seat would have ejected first then the pilot but I fear that it was selected to Rear so they can eject separately incase of inadvertent activation by the rear seat occupant.

It’s not much time delay but I think it’s no longer than one second, the g-force is truly powerful and reduces the pilot’s spine by an inch. Usually the selector is only put to Both in known combat conditions with the rear seat occupant with their hands on the handle just incase.
I know three engineers on the Arrows who all fly in the back seat- it’s a sad day  <:(

A very sad day indeed. A birdstrike seems so unlikely given the tiny fuselage mounted intakes on the Hawk, and not having time for both crew to punch out seems so unlikely too, but evidently all the planets aligned today and someone didn't get to go home  {:-{

Yes truly a sad day- one of my mates has checked in to let me know who’s okay- understandably no name of the engineer will be published. RIP to the chap in Blue overalls.
McGherkin- Doesn’t have to go down the intake to cause catastrophic damage particularly to a flying control such as an elevator or an aileron.

Having  worked on a Hawk a bird can go down the intake and cause  a catastrophic engine damage

Hi Smudger

The Blues do the see-off and see-in of the Red Arrows to what can be described as marshalling by numbers so they do all together resulting in the aircraft taxiing at the same time- quite spectacular if you get to see it.
