Which ESC for HMS Kelly?
« on: May 15, 2018, 04:04:11 pm »

I have bought a half finished Deans HMS Kelly.  It came with two motors supplied by Deans and called Kondor.  They are marked as 4.8 - 12 V - no other marlings - and they are wired in parallel to be driven by a single ESC.  The battery will be a 7.2V LiPo.  So my question is whether an Mtronics Viper 15 will be OK.

Thanks Stan - I'll go with the Viper 15 and with a 10 amp fuse between the battery and the ESC.

Thanks Stan - I'll go with the Viper 15 and with a 10 amp fuse between the battery and the ESC.
If driving two motors off one ESC, it is a good idea to feed each motor through its own fuse (5A probably perfectly adequate).  That way, if one motor suddenly wants too much, it blows its own fuse but leaves its mate working.  The fuses also give a useful spot for checking individual motor current draw.
This as well as the battery fuse protecting the model.

If you wish to use this method I would recommend using the double fuse holder from Action model electronics. This unit is neat and compact and makes for a tidy job..
