been buzzed by the R A F
« on: May 16, 2018, 06:38:09 pm »

This week at Leeds Bradford  Airport we have seen a lot of  military aircraft movements  from fighters to transports. I managed to get just one shot.

A Boeing C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft. I sometimes see them near us, as the RAAF uses them.

You see them all the time around Amberley (RAAF Base) doing touch and goes.

They are able to carry an Abrams main battle tank.

Does the RAF use C17s or is this a USAF plane in transit, to Germany or the Middle East, perhaps?

This plane was spotted over Strathdon Aberdeenshire last Tuesday afternoon ,from Lossiemouth I assume. How it stays up is all clever stuff seems to be going so slow .

The RAF operates 8 of them from Brize Norton as part of 99 Squadron. They were originally on loan for a certain amount of flying hours but it was quickly exceeded and now the RAF has flown the most flying hours with C17’s- so much now that Boeing has to ask them about any future problems that may occur as we have experienced almost every snag for over 100,000 flying hours!
And it takes a long time to refuel too- I did a couple in the Falkland Islands!
