L plate special
« on: June 25, 2018, 08:34:15 AM »

I would like to find a cheap, simple, rugged, fairly fast small boat with which to learn and practice the basics of RC boat control.
It needs to be compatible with my Spectrum DX6i TX. And to have easily sourced spares (not a brushless RTR with steering wheel type TX)
One suitable boat has caught my eye, the Club 500, so one of these or any similar boat would be of interest.
Thank you

You will need a compatible receiver
at the very least.
The MFA Piranha is more rugged
than the Club 500, but not so common
these days.
Steer clear (pun intended!)
of the fast? RTR's that abound
on Various Auction Sites.
They mostly have a dedicated
Wheel Control anyway and the
range is suspect.
A Springer is a good learning
platform but not fast.

Thanks Ned, it would be good to find a decent boat that only needs rx for a bit less than the (modest) cost of a new 500. Being a bit of a tightwad, I’m afraid, as you say RTR with proprietary parts, (chuck it away when it breaks) are of no interest, just need a boat that can collide with the occasional buoy with no harm done :-)

look on ebay….there are a good few weekly nice slow scale boats that will give you the learning curve you so desire...…...nd always nicer to watch a scale boat sailing around than a Tupperware type boat.

plenty for price range 50 - 350 quid.

L plate special has been sourced, thanks to Tim Garrod (a pleasure to deal with) she is a Robbe Turo with brushless conversion.
A squirt of paint and a bit of tlc should see her on the water quite soon  :-))
