Tamar paint finish

(1/3) > >>

Hi
I have just finished painting my first boat hull a  ModelSlipwa Tamar with Halfords rattle cans. Do l need to put a finish coat over the paint or just give it a rub down with 2500 grit paper and polish it. I have noticed the weight of hull on the stand has left an impression in the white hull even though  it has been painted 3 weeks ago.Stand has 15mm plumbing pipe insulation for hull support.  Hope it hardens with time. Thanks in advance for any advice.

what primer did you use and how much did you use ?

Hi John
I sprayed hull and deck with grey primer all over, masked hull then white primed below waterline and top coated appliance white. All Halfords cans . Don't think l overdid the undercoats . Top coated about 3 coats until it looked like a reasonable finish. Had hull upside down while white was drying and grey seems hard. Does finished painting work need any covering.

Hi John,
No need for a lacquer/clear coat if you're happy with the finish from the can.  If not, I'd try a polish first before rubbing down.

This thread might help in the future if you don't want to respray the hull now as I had a similar issue which was the Halfords primer; Paint and boat stand.  If the link doesn't work, it in this section of the forum with last post on 12 Jan 2016.

Hi Phil
Link worked OK. Not very nice reading .
Have just used 2500 grit paper on one side of hull and placed it back in cradle on pipe insulation with paper protection between hull and foam to eliminate any reaction. Let you know results .
