Identification of part built model boat
« on: August 21, 2018, 03:55:42 pm »

I have been asked if I can help identify this part built model of what appears to be something similar to an oil rig support support ship or perhaps a modern tug/workboat.
It was apparently started some years ago by a gentleman who has recently suffered a bereavement and his daughter is keen to encourage him to keep busy by carrying on with it. Unfortunately he has lost the plans and cannot recall the name of it.

I don't think it is a kit, more probably built from commercial plans, either Model Boats or MMI
Does anyone recognise it please? It looks pretty well constructed so far and it would be nice if it could be finished.

Glyn Guest perhaps.
Flat bottom points that way.

Hi Colin, the model is the Nexus Tide. It's from model boats December 2005. Plan is by Eris Kennedy  :-))

Ray,
Thanks. Yes, I'd pretty much just come to the same conclusion myself although the bridge windows on the model are a different pattern and the exhaust uptakes located slightly differently. But otherwise the spitting image. I will get the Lady to check dimensions. I have found a copy of the issue on Ebay with plan her Dad can look at.
I will report back.

Looks like that was indeed the model. The chap's daughter is really grateful for our help in identifying it and hopes it will help him recover from the loss of his wife. She has ordered the relevant issue from Ebay complete with plan.
Our good deed for the day. It's nice to be able to help in these circumstances.

Couldn't agree more Colin, and thank you for the update.
Hope the guy can bring himself on to finish it.
