1:12 scale seated crew figures
« on: September 21, 2018, 04:08:48 pm »

I am searching for 1:12 scale (6") seated crew figures, male or female to suit a 1960's motor launch but without success so far. Action figures which I could re-clothe/re-paint are a possibility but the only ones that I can find appear to be sci-fi or fantasy characters and are not suitable for boat crew. Can any of you kind and knowledgeable folk help please?

Look up dolls house figures, I'm sure they are 1/12th scale and loads of different type/styles of dolls.

Thanks IanPal but having trawled through many hundreds of 1:12 dolls house figures, there is nothing really useful except, perhaps, for some of the dogs and cats.

If you look up a thread for "A new pointy thing" , the crew members are poseable wrestlers from one of the pound shops.

Now that we can see the photos I will continue  :-)  These came from Toys in the Attic, they are 7" action figures from the TV show "Fear the Walking Dead" they are not popular, so were reduced, last time I looked the female figure was still available for a fiver.
As purchased they were very grim looking, so have been repainted to make them a bit more jolly (female is based on Patsy Stone from AbFab) It is very easy to reshape PVC figures, you just immerse them in hot water, bend to the new shape and set by applying cold water (these two were adjusted several times, even after painting) at 7" these figures were a bit small for my 1/8 scale Chris Craft so I extended them a bit with Milliput.
7" figures might be a bit large for 1/12 scale (these two would work out at 7' tall for the male and 6' for Patsy) but, depending on the model, might work OK
Another poster on Mayhem was using Dr Who figures which, I believe, are 5", so a little small for 1/12
Hope this helps

Many thanks Hotglove, I'll have a serious look at these figures as they appear to be near enough to 1:12 as to make no difference.

The Doctor ones would certainly be too small. The wrestlers are 6 inch but a bit wide at the shoulders so for a pound and a mix of soldering iron surgery and Milliput they're not too bad.

Just another point, I bought the Chris Craft already built and, fortunately, the builder had put magnets in all the seats, So my figures have very strong magnets fixed to them, the dog in the rear cockpit and picnic basket in middle cockpit are sub-assemblies on thin alloy sheet, also with magnets fitted.
So the boat can be run with crew and accessories or without with no obvious means of attachment.
The hurricane lamp in my photo is from a dolls house supplier and I was very impressed with the quality, they are all metal and are better in the flesh than in photos, powered by watch battery in base.
