ROPE WALKS
« on: September 21, 2018, 08:19:38 pm »

A tall order but has any member or associate got any idea where a friend of mine can beg buy or steel a "large" 12" gear wheel and four smaller gears, on a 4:1 ratio so that he can make a rope walk, in order to make skipping ropes from old hemp yarn/bailing twine ……….

or does anyone know of a rope walk that may be for sale somewhere.

he doesn't want a  main gear to be less than 10 - 12 inches diameter though.

cheers for picking your brains. :o %%

Just a side thought. As the gears on a rope walk are not highly stressed, 3D printing could be a low cost option. If you have any drawings of 4:1 gears they could be scaled to meet the size wanted. I am not sure if 3D scanning can be scaled.

I hadnt planned on selling it, but you never know, its a big heavy lump so would probably cost a fortune to ship, but before all that I have  to find where I have put it, I will have a hunt and let you know.

Well at the moment I have hunted where I thought it was, so now to spread the hunt a bit wider, it was 3 years back and a lot has moved around in that time.
