Hello ( build an electric hydrofoil )
« on: October 21, 2018, 06:12:01 pm »

Hi, I have been an aeromodeller since my teens (RC soaring) I’m now 60 years young. With the advent of cheap lipos and brushless motors I’m planning to build an electric hydrofoil. As I’ve always rolled my own I’ve found a couple of plans on the net. It also helps that there’s an RC boat club 12 miles away should I get really bitten by the bug. Please bear with me if I repeat myself occasionally I suffered from a severe brain injury a while ago and it can happened. I’m hoping l will be able cope with 2 dimensions better than I now can three. I can still fly, but not to a standard that satisfies me.

Cheers Mike

I think it’s called a Cosy F1 Tunnel Hull. I like the construction technique and that it uses an aboard motor.
I assume the lighter l can build irt the better as long as I build it strong?

If it's a hydrofoil you want to build I can recommend the Lecrofoil from what used to be the MAP plans range...that was a good performer on a 540 and 9.6 volts. With Lipo and brushless it could only be better.

Hi
I used one of those outboards on a shallow vee hull (3S lipo 2650mah).
The dam thing goes like a bat out of hell with only the prop in thee water in a straight line.
Use plywood on the frames and skins, balsa will not take the punishment.

Got one of each of these in my shed, gathering dust till I can get round to them. The Hydrofoil was by a japanese company. 540 motor but cannot get her to stay on the foil;s unles in a straight line, even then she is a handfull.doing more research into the angles for the foils as I think thats the problem. Also going to swap over to brushless and lipo
