Also with the airbrush. Only flush through with a reputable cleaner between paints, do not use a heavy solvent. The airbrush body contains a minute O ring that can be damaged by some solvents. After use strip and clean each part with solvent if needed (if you have sprayed enamels/cellulose etc) But the body should just be flushed with a decent airbrush cleaner.

Just a repeat of a tip from Bryan Young. When choosing adhesives, think laterally sometimes and consider using double sided tape, it can often give a very neat and permanent job where conventional adhesives are difficult or messy to use.

If you have an old video recorder kicking around waiting to go to the tip, strip out the recording head, ( Ali. drum about 50mm dia.) You will find some high precision bearings inside.

Cheers, Terry.

Absolutely Colin, I do this a lot. The best and strongest/permanent I have yet found is the 'NO-NAILS' doublesided tape - it takes some shifting! I stuck down the rubbing-strakes on my yacht 3 years ago and it hasn't moved -yet! Be careful though - it has instant 'grab'.

I can't take credit for this one, it was passed to me on a Facebook group page. Don't buy one of the expensive bilge pumps advertised, look out at the local car boot sales or cheapy shops like Poundland for those table top water features. They can be picked up for a couple of pounds, just extract the water pump from them and throw away/recycle the rest of it.

Buy a box of cheap disposable plastic gloves ( or grab handfuls off the garage forecourt next to the pumps %) ) Wear them when holding small parts and spraying paint, then throw away. It saves getting paint all over your hand. Also useful when doing grp work or using body filler.

Don't use rubber surgical gloves they are too expensive for this.

This tip from the plastic model world. If you want to apply a tiny amount of superglue/instant glue, take a sewing needle and grind off the tip from the eye end. This will leave a little fork shape that holds just enough glue to apply carefully.

I put mine in a microdrill handle to get more control, it also prevents you spearing yourself on the pointy end. If they eye becomes overloaded with dry glue just hold in a naked flame for a few seconds to burn it away.

CAUTION IF USING A NAKED FLAME, REMEMBER THE BASE OF SUPERGLUE'S IS A CYANIDE PRODUCT AND IT IS BEST NOT TO BREATHE IN THE FUMES FROM THE BURNING GLUE!!!

Some very cheap 12v LEDs available from Amazon (posted from China). They also work well on 6v. No need to bother with resistors for many model boat lighting applications.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/White-Lamp-Light-20cm-Wired/dp/B00H98OS2W/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1440104922&sr=1-1&keywords=20+x+White+LED+Lamp+Light+Set+20cm+Pre+Wired+5mm+12V+DC

These are the larger 5mm variety and I am using them for general internal lighting rather than navigation lamps.

When you have a broken/redundant Tx or radio with a telescopic aerial, snip off the top section. Many come in handy for flag-staffs.  :-))

I stopped posting to this topic as I suggested it as hints and tips that would be related to model building. Quite clearly a lot of what was posted under Seasprays topic that was merged with mine were not model related and could come under the general heading of 'humour' which is why I have not posted since that date. So as the topic has become confused and obfuscated - especially to those that want model building tips, I'll confine my hints and tips to my own build threads.

Yes, needs some tidying up, the original intention of useful hints and tips is an excellent one. Plenty of room for witty stuff elsewhere.

I suppose this has been done before, but I've just tried it , I mix a bit of paint in my epoxy glue  so when I am fixing my deck fittings I do not get a glue mark. Anyway it works for me . The paint I use is Humbrol enamel.

From the bench of someone who uses a Dremel and superglue 9 hours every day:

Don't drill your fingers
Don't glue your fingers
Don't glue your fingers to the drill
Don't glue your drill to your fingers
Cutting wheels hurt
Don't wrap the drill into your shirt
Don't be tempted to superglue scalpel / dremel wounds together
DO NOT POUR KICKER ONTO SUPERGLUE REPAIRED WOUNDS
Don't blow superglue into eyes
Don't blow superglue and kicker mix into eyes
Stop drilling your fingers..

The list goes on..
