Got one wrong. Sorry.
The "worthies"
the gentleman with the pocket watch chain is   alderman  porter from  tynemouth with his award winning trawler, and we  have the porter medal  donated by the alderman porter, which is played for in our scale sailing competitions.   O0

Great pictures, Brian.

I thought that was me in photo 12. Very similar to my photo's of the time. Where are they taken, do you know?  ;)

Picture 9 looks like my Typhoon without the trimmings.

Cheers...Ken

All at Tynemouth Boating Lake. The lake hasn't changed in over 100 years...but the Plaza burned down a few years ago so we lost our wind protection.

Any more old photos anybody.

It is always really intereting to look back, even if only to the flares and platform boots of the 1970s

This should have been "great-grandad".
001..Couldn't go yachting without a stick.
003..'rubbish' pic, but very old.
004..etc. MUST be dressed correctly, even indoors.
014..The lake bank is just the same today. I just wish they could bring back the rowing boats in place of the dreadful tatty pedalos they have now. Left out all winter to gather bird 'rubbish' and sink due to owners neglect. An eyesore.

Good pictures Bryan.  I wonder if any of those boats are still in existence / hidden away somewhere.
The spectators couldn't get much closer to the water. Wouldn't mind betting some of them were nudged in.  ::)

It is interesting to see that many of these models are over 60" long.
Big boys toys even then  {-)

I was thinking the other night, that although they did not have acces to modern materials there were a far larger percentage of the population who were artisans and mechanical engineers than we have today.
They were also surrounded by real ships to inspire them.

What would they have used for propulsion on the non sail models?
Steam is obviously an option, but I get the impresion that these were pointed across the lake and collected at the other side.

So you are still alive and well brian_c! We thought you were off killing things again. Give me a yell and maybe we can put some of your dads pics together. PS The "scale" comp seemed to go off ok today. (Kirk running it).
