Martin,
Pass the word along to anyone who might be in need of this epoxy type of
putty, "Bondo Corporation" makes some stuff called "Marine Epoxy Stick"
that looks like the stuff Jan used. It kinda looks like a sausage with a
thick casing, which you cut or twist off the amount you need and knead it
twixt your fingers.
It takes about 20-30
minutes to harden and is readily sanded. I used it for several things on
my Coast Guard lifeboat, including making life jackets and hats for my
crew. Check the internet for Bondo Marine Products. I also used it to make
fuel fill and vents, per attached file. There are more tips that I've done
on Clive Lawford's "44 foot lifeboat" site, that might be adapted to other
uses.
Imagination is the keyword.
The main thing is, when using this stuff, know what you are going to do
going in, as you've only about 15 minutes before it starts getting hard.
If you've got a female mould, it works good that way too. Just be sure to
lightly oil the mould for a release agent, before you press in the putty.
