antique anchor chain?

ok, not quite an accurate title :)
I have some chrome brass anchor chain, and it looks like a kiddies necklace rather than an anchor chain.

How can I make it look a bit more authentic? i dont want actual rust, but a lot less shine would be good. :D

Try to get a test piece. Dip it in vinegar and see what happens. For a truly big change use a caustic soda solution but have a receptacle of clean water to hand to quench it in, as the colour will change fast. You may have to repeat the dunking to gain the colour you require.

May I presume you are talking about the bit of chain that is visible when the anchor is housed?  If so, it is almost universal practice to paint that sectio white....it aids visibility when picking up the pick...as it were. Before we see pics of rusty cables being posted, I am talking about outfits that care about the appearance of their vessels.

Brian, as this model is of a 50's cabin cruiser, theres no anchor port.
it just lays on the deck, next to the windlass (correct term?), after running through the chock.
So all the chain is visible, front and cantre. This model has two anchors, so its even more visible.

I hadnt thought of painting it, I just want it less bright.

A light coat of matt white would look nice. BY.
