Stavros, are you talking about the model on a shelf at the far end of the shed ??? If so, its a 1:8 scale GT40 gas car (my first RC toy). I purchased the kit from a company called "Heathkit" in 1973 - Toronto Canada.

Sorry its late guys - we had visitors til just now !

Here are some pics of some of my cars and trucks - I don't have photos of all of them, and some are still in storage following our recent house move and will probably stay there due to a lack of shelf space ! These are all the cars I have out on the shelves as seen in the "Workshop/Office " photo !

Both the Audi and Lancia 037 bodyshells are made by Chevron Models of China - difficult to get hold of due to them not speaking english and only dealing with people who speak chinese ! I happen to have a contact in Hong Kong who  got them for me !

The Lancia Stratos Stradale ( street version ) is made - or was made - by ABC models - they no longer make it so is now quite collectable !

The Lancia Integrale is a Tamiya body originally released in the mid '90's, the re-releases a couple of years ago - this is the re-re version which was supplied factory finished - the original was unpainted and seperate sticker sheet. This is a firm favourite of mine as I used to own one - best fun I ever had on four wheels !

The two Martini Lancias and the Audi I plan to "Super Detail" once I get the bits - spotlights, real mesh for the grilles, cockpit interiors which I am making myself - I have made a mould for vacforming the parts for the interiors, just gotta get them made !

The Mercedes CLK is also a Tamiya body - is still in production so is easily available, this is the body I normally race with on sundays due to its ease of replacement and the fact that the chassis I use just seems to handle best with this body on for some reason - maybe due to aerodynamics, but, who can tell at this scale ! It doesn't look this good any more - somewhat battered now and due for replacement !

The TVR Tuscan Speed Six is made by HPI - an american firm who make some incredibly hard-wearing bodyshells. I also use this on sundays sometimes, hence the damage, but, it does not handle anywhere near as nicely as the Merc !

All the cars above are sitting on either Tamiya TT-01 chassis - the most basic of the Tamiya chassis - as for the most part they are only for display. The race chassis is a carbon/graphite twin-deck version of the TT-01 chassi made by a company called 3Racing - and costs not much more than a basic genuine TT-01, but is far lighter and superior - better suited to racing ! The moste expensive body was the Lancia 037 which I ended up paying £55 for inc shipping, the others vary between £20 and £30 each. None of the cars have cost more than £150 each.

The orange Jeep is a custom rockcrawler job - Tamiya TLT-1 Rockbuster axles and centre gearbox, 4:1 reduction unit on the motor, Jungfac 1/10th scale conversion chassis kit, RC4WD CNC machined alloy beadlock wheels 2.2inch size ( they were expensive from the states - £70 just for the rims ! ) HPI Geolander tyres and 1/8th scale HPI Jeep Wrangler/Renegade bodyshell - this thing walks up walls, and a standard 3300 7.2v nimh pack lasts about 40 mins ! !Total cost so far is around £350

The Mercedes truck is a 6wd conversion of the Tamiya 1/14th scale Mercedes 1838 single axle tractor unit - extended chassis ( not in the pics ) twin rear axle conversion , custom made transfer case to supply drive to the Tamiya TLT-1 front axle , currently has the standard three speed gearbox, but it runs a little too fast so will be fitting a RC4WD inline 2:1 reduction unit to slow it down a bit and up the torque and duration. This is an ongoing project that will eventually be a Dakar type Rally Raid truck - should be fun ! Total cost so far is something in the order of £300 and the original truck was second hand off Ebay.

And, of course, the faithful old Tamiya Sand Scorcher ! I always wanted one of these as a kid, but never got one - so now I am slowly but surely scouring Ebay for the bits to build one - nearly got everything I need, just waiting for a few minor hard to find peices. God knws how much this has cost to build - a New-In-Box one, unbuilt, would fetch something in the region of £700-£900 on Ebay !

Pheeeww ! That took some time !  :P

... Brian, is she still doing "Aunt Suzie" on the BBC?

Remember seen her once and it made me laugh... how times are changing... and remembers me of that "roaring sound" of the 70`s...

Sh**, I`m becoming old....

A couple of years ago 5th Gear did a "race" around their test track between one of the last built 20v Audi Sport Quattro's ( original Quattro shape ) against a Mitsubishi Evo VI and the Quattro was only 1 or 2 seconds slower.. so much for 20+ years...

Hi Brian c, love the car, my son had a similar one.  He lived in Germany at the time and bought I think it was an A4 or it might have been S4.  It was an estate but had a 4.2 litre engine left hand drive 4 w.d..  There were only 50 made to  fit in with rallying rules I believe.

Imagine driving along the road and a boy racer comes along and finds he really can't overtake an estate car.  It was governed at 250 kph (about 156 mph).  They do that sort of thing in Germany never see it here though ::) ::) It  had beautiful white leather seats an every comfort for its time.

The accelleration was better than the Porches of the time.
It cost a lot to own though and is now with someone else.
regards Roy

my wife had an audio S4.... lovely car but we had a friday motor, - it spent more time in the garage than on the road,  we got it from new, and in 3 years it needed a new gearbox, new water pump, a new radio head unit, a new  part for the aircon, a new Nearside front Brake unit....

i guess we were just unlucky

and i also managed to crack the alloy  in a terrential down pour by hitting a hidden pothole in a deep puddle,  how to do £600 of damage in minutes... :'(

but stick the car on the motorway and press the 'go faster pedal' and you forgot about all the bills and all the time it spent in the service bay...... the only thing you concentrated on then was the speedo and how big your smile was !
