can any train experts help? ( Llife like figures 1:16 scale )
« on: August 29, 2008, 09:37:30 am »

Hi to any train experts! I am trying to locate life like (not dolls!) figures for my 1/16 RAF Fireboat, and slightly larger Jaws shark boat, Orca, and finally 1/12 Huntsman. After trawling the internet, and visiting the two recent shows, there is nothing out in the rc boat world that looks any good (unless someone knows otherwise, there where some really nice 1/24 ones at Birchwood show, but too small). The Graupner ones are horrific! ;D ;D

I believe some of the train stuff is larger scale, and the figures are better quality, anybody know a good website?

Thanks

I have used in the past, gaugemaster I think would suit you better, [perhaps]

Tamiya make some 1/16 scale figures but they may be military ones and are about £16 each I believe. However they could be adapted. Try looking at the "Tankzone" website in the UK. You will find railway O gauge figures to be too small as they are only 1/43 scale. The next scale up is gauge 1 which is 1/32 scale. There is also the so called G scale (garden railways scale). I think you will find it hard to locate figures for the even larger railway scales (the ones that are closer to 1/16 scale).

G scale would not be anywhere near big enough for you. Gauge 1, and 2 (next scale up from G scale)  are too small and gauge 3 railway items work out at about 1/22 scale (still not big enough for you). I think from experience you won't find commercially available figures in the larger railway scales. As I mentioned before Tamiya definitely make 1/16 scale figures but you would need to modify them as they are of military personnel.

The largest scale model trains that have figures is 1/24 and some 1/20.3 these all fall in the G Gauge family of scales. Now all is not lost there was a great set of instructions for sculpting your own figures on "my large scale" "http://archive.mylargescale.com/articles/articles/figureclass/ch1/figures-01.asp" there are three parts to the figure class so far and one or two more to come but these will get you through the basics and get you some very nice figures that no one else will have.

1/16th is close to the 3.3/4" figures used by Action Force, Star Wars, GI-JOE etc, try those

cap maquettes do resin figures,   (1 to 15, and 1 to 10th scale  i tihnk if memory serves me right,) - both are available via bow wave models here in the UK

they do a variety of styles, heads are interchangeable, arms and legs can be fixed in several positions plus they come in some cases with extra eg hand held radios, binoculars and the likes....

i have about 5 of their figures and the quality is very good....but they are solid resin so are weighty...

Have a look at 1/16th RC Tank websites. theres loads of them and most in 'adaptable' poses.  O0
