Futaba Skysport 4 TX Battery Lights
« on: May 05, 2008, 05:53:52 pm »

I have just started to use my Futaba Skysport 4 (T4YF) FM 40MHz Tx/Rx which I had for Christmas and which has not been out of the box until this weekend.
The Tx has a Green and Red battery indicator LED but the instruction manual doesn't actually explain how they indicate battery condition , except that "batteries should be changed when the Red LED flashes" but the manual appears to be written around standard AA cells whereas my Tx has a 9.6v Ni-Cad Pack. Also I gave the 9.6v Ni-Cad pack an initial charge of 14hrs via the charging point in the case, this resulted in the Green and Red (steady) lights to be illuminated but when I put a volt meter across the pack it gave a reading of just over 6v.
Could anyone please explain the battery indicator light system to me and should give the battery pack more charge to bring it up to full capacity.
As always your advice and help will be most appreciated. :)
Regards
Barrie.

I only have the Futaba Attack running of AA rechargeables, but it has the same LEDs. Red and green on when charge OK, green on, red flashing when charge is low.

Yes - give it another charge - the chargers with the sets have a very low rate of charge, and it takes the packs a few charges to develop full capacity. I have been told that Futaba limits the charge you can get through the Tx charging socket.

Another Barrie :)

I would agree with Barrie, BreezyB.  I have this set as well. I find it quicker to remove the NiMH battery and charge it on it's dedicated charger. The system in the transmitter is very slow.

When running at full charge, Both light are showing to indicate all is charged. When the battery discharges, I notice the red light goes on and off quite week.  This used to be after 45 mins on the original 600MaH which came with the set, which is why I've now gone up to a 2600 Millamp NimH

Hope this helps, as it's a great set up

I use the Futaba charger for my transmitter, from "its dead, jim" it takes around 24 hours to get to 11.6v, a session at the lake she goes from 10.9 to about 10.1 as it only has a 1500mah battery pack,

Very many thanks Ghost, this is all useful info as the "blurb" is of little technical help. Thanks again,
Barrie.  :-))
