1/12 scale figure
« on: April 10, 2008, 04:51:18 pm »

I have a Billings Slo-Mo-Shun - still in the box, but have seen piccy's of the boat looking very odd without a 'pilot'
any thoughts about a 1/12 scale figure?

Deans Marine do some mini action man type figures in that size!
Might have to replace the combats!
Used them on my DUKW

George Turner does some 1:12 figures.

Failing that 1:12 is a dolls house scale, plenty of scope there.

I ordered one of the figures from Doug, (Classic Hydro Figure) - pay pal, money gone, just had an email from him saying that the mould has been irreparably damaged, money already back in my account. Shame about the figure, thank goodness for honest traders. On to the next try.

I'm thinking about a WW1 coastal motorboat in 1:12, so I was interested in this thread. However, I think the Deans figures are actually 1:10. If anyone knows of suitable "RN" figures in 1:12, I'd be pleased to here about them - also a 1:12 Lewis gun!

I'm not certain but I think that Speedline do some 1:12 scale lifeboatmen -  www.speedline-models.com.

If you like something a bit different, try dolls house shops. I have a boat piloted by a resin figure from these people: http://www.miniaturescene.com/

If anyone knows of suitable "RN" figures in 1:12, I'd be pleased to here about them - also a 1:12 Lewis gun!

A number of RC aircraft manufacturers make Lewis guns and other WW1 aircraft guns in 1/12, here's one: http://www.wrightbrothersrc.com/products/wwi.htm (this is a US site, not sure if they ship to the UK). Williams Bros. do a very nice styrene Lewis gun kit which can be found in some UK hobby shops, unfortunately this is twice the scale size you need, at 1/6.

All of these, though, are the open, air-cooled Lewis type rather than the water-cooled version used by the RN - I'm not sure how easy it would be to scratchbuild a new barrel.
