Engine Test
« on: May 11, 2008, 10:57:05 pm »

Hi
I'm almost ready to test the engine, propeller shaft and propeller - I think? :)
The motor (electric T24) is fixed in place, the universal joint, propeller shaft and propeller are all fixed in place.  (nearly) (nothing else is fitted)

Do I just connect the '+' and '-' terminals to one of my batteries, or should I first install the ESC, Fuse, set up the RC & Receiver?
Does the motor use servo? or do I just fit the above?
Will my RC unit automatically know it has to control the motor?

Sorry for so many 'noob' questions but it's my first time and as I gather knowledge more questions keep coming up. :)

regards
Gary

Gary,

You can test run the motor by just connecting the battery to the motor, but you will only get full speed that way.

Its probably better to set up the Electronic Speed Controller, fuse and radio gear and test the whole installation.

Rig up a few AA cells on 3 volts and connect this direct to motor.
It helps to bed everything in ready for speed control and full power.

Thanks Bob
I'll have a go at that - I just want to see the screw turning - no 'out of alignment' issues and to 'know it's right'

I try my motors on one AA cell, it gives an idea how free the drive train is.
If it will start and run on one cell it can't be bad O0
