Motor for MMM Gribbin Head.
« on: May 27, 2008, 05:30:47 pm »

I have recently purchased an MMM Gribbin Head together with all of the bits and pieces including one of their T12 motors.  Going along with what another Mayhemer has done, I am fitting a kort nozzle, which is something new for me.  No real problems there but I have found that if I use the T12 motor I have to set the prop shaft at a silly angle to get any kind of bed under the motor mount.  I have, among my collection, an MFA 919D motor with a 2.5:1 gearbox and, because the output shaft is set low, I could mount this without any problems.  My query is - would the MFA motor be powerful enough ?
I have had one suggestion on the Model Tugs Forum about setting the T12 motor on a bed of silicone in order to keep it low down in the hull.
Any other suggestions, please. :)

Derek,

No don't set it on silicon. Wrap the motor in cling film and then make up some P38 car filler or similar and set the motor into that with the coupling attached. Leave to dry, Remove the cling film and you have aperfect mount......I have done this several times with 100% success. All you have to do after this is epoxy a couple of pieces of imber either side of the mount, pop a couple of hooks into ech piece and attach rubber bands to hold the motor steady....No problem and your MMM motor will work a treat.. :police:

Barry,
I would only disagree with the elastic bands especially on such a torquey motor.
I would set the mount as you say, but fix motor in with silicone, but tightened down with a couple of cable ties.
OR fix in with a smear of epoxy and cable ties.
