Well, my Gato kit arrived yesterday after getting lost in transit once and being delivered to the wrong address three times, it made it safely here.

It's now takien over my desk, I had to rearrange the lounge furniture, and I've only just opened the box!

I'm after any interior shots of radio controlled Gato's please chaps...anyone who has built one, post me up some internal shots PLEASE!

It surprised me too Martin...52" oal, nearly as big as a Darnell boat, bit slimmer in the beam at 4 1/2", so it may be a bit tender when running fully surfaced in rough water, but then who worries? Subs are designed to run at periscope depth!

As big as it may be, it's still going to be a tight squeeze to get everything inside the hull though.

have a gander at sub pirates. wonderfull build there from dave merriman. you can also buy ther gubbins for the inside of of a related site. nothing else will give you some ideas.

Better late than never! Here's some pictures of my Gato, she got her keel wet for the 1st time on Sunday & sailed well, although a little low in the water.
Pictures of her in the water to follow - they're on my son's camera!
Biggest issue is venting the air from under the decks, I've opened up a large hole under the tower as this is particularly bad here.
Currently running on 8.4v & 2 300 motors but this is way to powerful & will reduce the motor size at the first refit.
Props & A frames are from the kit & drilled out / threaded as required, shafts are brass 3mm.

Love the weathering, was it difficult to cram all that gear into the hull? What kind of diving system does it have?

There's enough room because I've got the motors & batteries in the wet compartment.

It's a simple water pump with an additiional air tank in the bow to allow more water capacity.

Looks like I will have to get the Type2 out of dry dock soon then, I would like to get some more video shots and maybe a few underwater pics. I had also better start rousting Kapitain Pond and get both our boats underway again. One or two customers threatening to bring their Type2s up there as well, so could have a flottila up and running one day.
Nice to see the Akula's still going strong.
Trouble is, turning into an old git and losing a bit of weight means umpteen layers of clothing, gets ruddy cold up there sometimes!

It was bloody frezzing on Sunday - I dont have the lack of weight issue either!
The good thing about sailinf in the cold is water calrity, as soon as it warms up a couple of degrees it will probably colour up as in previous years.
You'll do well to get the Kapitan out of his cave yet!

I've re joined NMBC now & might speak to the committee about reforming the Submarine section, I think there's still plenty in the club.

Looks like there are 2 Sub Regattas planned this year.

Can you advise me as to where to start looking at and for.. the electricory inside please.
I note that you are useing 3mm brass rod for your propshafts.... will these not warp ?
I have been advised that White Steel is a better answer... any advice Here

As of yet nothing , but have looked at several options but can't make up my mind or find anyone who has gone down this road yet.....
I currently run a "Manxman"greyfleet and wish to look into a submarine set up. where I "float my boat" is deep and murky so would not wish to go below conning tower
and I am running on a "Spektrum" set up

What RX/TX do you run with please

3mm Brass rods are fine on a boat this size - I've fitted them in bigger boats pulling more torque.
I always run 40MHZ in fm for subs- better reception when dived.
The WTC in my boat is my own as detailed in Marine Modelling a while back by Paul Cook - pm me for more info'.

Motors & Batteries are fitted outside the WTC - motors are in 35mm cannisters & packed with Grease.
