Help Please Looking for Plans of British W.W.II LCA
« on: June 26, 2008, 11:20:42 pm »

Hello, my name is George. I am a new member here. I was referred to this club from my other club.

I am looking for plans for the W.W.II British Landing Craft Assault - LCA . That was used by the U.S, British and Canadians for the D-Day Landings. This craft is different from the U.S Higgins Landing Craft with the front ramp that just dropped down and the troops exited.

This LCA had the ramp BUT it also had Two doors inside of the ramp that had to be opened for the troops to exit. Please can anyone help with a source of detail plans for one ? I don`t care what scale, I can always have the plans enlrarged locally to 1/16 for R.C use.

If anyone knows a source, I would appreciate any link to it and maybe a model as well, possible any scale larger then 1/72.

Thanks In Advance for your Help.

George,

Welcome aboard!  As mentioned earlier, am certain you'll find some nice fellows here who can help point you in the right direction.  ;)

Regarding models, here's a 1/35 scale kit that would be useful in doing your own take off if you can't readily find plans.

Hi George and welcome to the Forum,

How are your language skills?

If you check out the French Government site www.servicehistorique.sga.defense.gouv.fr you will find what you need listed as LCA 1942.

And it's FREE to download.

Best of luck

Tony

Hi all, I would like to thank you all for all your help. I have emailed the First Two sites and I am still waiting for a reply. As for the last French site, I have been there and I have downloaded plans from it as well. I just need to get them enlarged so that I can work with them. There a little hard to read, lots of information on each page.

Anyways Thanks Again for All your help.

Interesting to see the answers to George's request and, just to prove that the memory has not gone completely - the LCAs were powered by two Scripps (Ford) V8 petrol engines (firing order - 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2) and had engine room telegraphs operated from the helm position on the starboard side forward (forrard) - it's amazing the bits of useless information that stick in one's mind.  ???  The engine room must have been an awful place to be when going in onto an enemy beach when you were in close company with those two engines and a bloomin' great tank of petrol.   :( :( :(  I'm glad that my knowledge of them came post -war.
