my henglong tiger 1 pics
« on: July 01, 2008, 01:08:52 pm »

Hi, havent been on here for a while but have been meaning to put these on here since seeing the rest of them last time i was online. i love these things. the tiger particularly has tamiya looks (allbeit for a few minor accuracy issues) for a fraction of the price, and well the tiger's my favourite any way.

they are quite tricky at first to get a realistic running appearance as rather than having a proper esc they seem to have somesort of 3 stage thingy that goes slow-medium-fast. but with practise they can look great and there are plenty of custom parts for them.

so here it is with weathering and some repainted parts to improve some of the accuracy problems such as silver sprocket and idler wheels to name 1. Also painted in the lights as i thought it looked a bit silly lit up like xmas tree.

Very, Very nice, it really looks the biz, I have just bought a 1:6th M5 from 21st century toys and when I get the chance am going to make it look a bit more like the real thing. All I need is a 1:6th scale landing craft to go with it, now that would be something. Your Tiger is first class, I hope my M5 comes close to it for looks......Well done... O0.....Smudge

What's the electronics like in the Heng Long? Is there any scope for upgrading, like the Seaport tugs? or are they OK out of the box?

Hi guys thanks for your comments as always. :) To be honest i havent opened it up yet (havent needed to) but there are upgrades for it (different gearboxes etc) as far as the speedo goes i dont they do one but there must be a way of using a different (better) one than whats in there. If thers a will theres a way. But i havent bothered yet as im quite happy with how it is, once you get used to how it goes you can make it look pretty realistic. i suppose i could try to get a video of it running.

Not sure what sound unit it is either but i thought about trying to put the tamiya one in there as it must be better than this one but its a little expensive.

This website has loads of stuff, and this link has photographic instructions of how to take it apart and whats inside etc. havent looked at it in depth but if you want to know more and fancy a read take a look.

scroll to the bottom and the diiferent instr. are on the left hand side.

Thanks again

Hi. I am also a collector of Heng Long tanks, have three at the moment, Tiger (see picture) Walker Bulldog and Pershing.
The quality of both model and electronics have improved with each new tank, the latest Panzer III and IV are reported to be the best ever. The new smoke generator now is proportional to the speed. They are reported to be bringing out a lot more tanks, including some British in the near future. As uboatbuilder says you can get all manner of upgrade parts for them and they are a fraction of the price of the Tamiya tanks.

Is that the 'stick on' zimmerit Brockya?

I fancy a 'tabby' too, my son already has the Leopard, Howes Models are currently offering the Tiger with metal track and gearbox upgrade fitted for about £80, quite a good deal I thought.

I REeeeeeeaaally like the 1/6th scale girlies, but jeez can they be expensive!!
So off I trotted and found a USA site that builds sort of 'stand off' scale I think we'd call it, tanks. They fit them out with paintballs and have a barny.
Coming from this background, it would be easy to make more of the scale appearance and elevate it away from the stand off look.

A 1/6th Tiger Tank....thats about 40" long!  :D

Hi Penguin.
I made the zimmerit myself from a modelling clay that set hard after making the pattern, you can buy stick on zimmerit now but not when I modified this tank. Yes 1/6 tanks, if I had a spare few thousand maybe, or maybe more boats, or may be both!!! it ain't going to happen this life.. though I am thinking about a Deans LSM kit, trying to find out what sort of build it is?

Have a look here Brockya: http://www.rctankcombat.com/

If you can build a boat, you can build one of these babies very easily....I think! :o
Got my 16th scale Tiger this afternoon and spent the rest of it drooling over the available bolt-on goodies that really make it shine.
There seems to be one or two scale issues, most of which can easil be sorted, the gun mantle is fitted wrong way round, the commanders cupola hatch is opening in the wrong direction, the barrel is 20mm to short and appears as if its permanantly in the recoil position and the aerial/antenna is in the wrong place apparently.
I've still to fit the metal tracks too...

I was goin to try and get some pics of the faults on here at some point but the tanks in the box now covered with other things, will get them though.

I was thinkin about these HL's earlier and was wondering why they dont do some of the more popular tanks.
they've done the panther and the tiger which are in my opinion and as far as i know the more famous or rather infamous of the ones they do at the moment but what about the:

King Tiger  8)
Sherman    8)
T34     8)

I know id have all 3 of those and im sure im not the only and at their pirices aswell its way WAY more feasible than buying 4 or 5 Tamiyas.

Does anyone know if Heng long have plans for future new models rather than improvements on old ones?

If this works, below will appear a pic of a 1/6 M3  that i built for a serious 1/6 collector.
based on the M5 mechanicals, but seriously modified  and with over 1700 rivets !

a friend of mine has a couple of these hl tanks, his tiger1 has been fitted with a home made proortional smoke unit, he has upgraded the motors, and modified the sound unit, its really nice. I would like to do a Sherman, really liked that tank, and it WOULD have to be a replica of Oddball's (Donald Sutherland) in the Kelly's Heroes film...... "positive waves man"!!!

Anyone got a pic of a  RC Sherman?

Lovely stuff..... O0

Im slowly getting some materials together for my 1:6th Tiger but the rubbish weathers putting a damper on things, plan B is to watch out for one of those winter dry spells to get the carcass put together. Till then Im putting things together in my head, trying to slove problems as I come up with them and writing down the solutions in log.

One of the main ones was the wiring of the turret rotating mechanism and any other bits that go in there, solution?
Make the turret an entity of its own! 6-7 channel control would work I think 2ch's for steering, 1 for machine gun and another for smoke, of course I need a channel for a rousing chorus of "Panzer Lied" as I roar into action in Kursk!.....erh...ok, ok, the park!
The rest up top for turret rotation/elevation.

apart from the officer who looks like he has just escaped from a mental home good effort, I have two tanks the snow leapard and the bulldog, and a friend has two, I have in my large garden set up a combat course, the plot is 12 terrorists have hijacked eight UN aid workers and are holding them in a mosque, MY old sqd (22) SAS have been given the task of getting them back, to do this they have been given two tanks as the mosque is 88 miles behind the lines and the use of aircraft is out as they have the latest in russian radar with GTA missiles, the engines on the tanks have been treated to make them as quite as possible, now they have to go to a start line and the first tank starts off it has to go through a minefield in which a narrow path has been cleared, just wide enough for the tanks metal tracks, soon there is a pill box with anti-tank rockets which has to be taken out, this is followed by a pill box and trench also with self guided anti tank rockets and 50mm cannon, then comes a anti tank barrier of trees which have been fallen and piled up so that when the tank climbs over them its bottom is exposed to the gun on a russian tank which was taken out by the RAF but the turret still works as does the gun, here the tank has to make a sharp left turn to avoid another mine field and comes face to face with a big trench with a large lumber of 50 mm cannons in it, then there is a tall radar tower which must be destroyed, beyond this is the mosque, in the top of the tower is a lookout with a rocket launcher, now the mosque must not be damaged as it will cause an uprising of all the arabs in the country, in the hours of darkness a SAS member climbed the tower and painted a red line, the red line is to denote that only that part of the mosque above the red line can be touched. , the tower top has to be taken out without damage to to the rest of the mosque, once this has been done a squad of eight SAS will blow the doors and storm the inside, should the first tank fail the second will try, we carry out the exercise as a competition, all buildings are constructed from balsa so that the hits can be seen and counted, trenches are considered to be destroyed if and when two pellets are in the trench, we have different coloured pellets for different type amo white is high explosive on contact, yellow is for air burst with shrapnel, and florescent pellets are both tracer and armour peircing
