Your thoughts on super-phatic resin/glue stuff?
« on: July 01, 2008, 04:03:29 pm »

Hello all.

Just wondering what you chaps think of superphatic resin? The LMS chappy told me it was just a quick drying aliphatic resin - which is nice.

However, I forgot to rinse a brush I use for pushing glue around into joints yesterday and found that it cleaned up just by putting it in my mouth ( a very bad habit I have from painting model soliders :( ) anywho - the glue disolved. So now I'm wondering about it's water proof qualities.

seems to make fairly strong joints, but I've only used it on thin ply so far, so can't say for definate.

I have used it a lot, seems ok to me, but the places used are always either painted or epoxied.

Yellow PVA.  Works great on absorbent material like balsa and card, but like boatmadman said, all lmy joins were behind a layer of waterproofing anyway.
Regarding the stuff dissolving in saliva - it MIGHT have been the chemistry.

This is off there site. one is waterproof one isn't, but I think they have to be fully cured which they take a very long time to do in any thickness like your brush.

I use it for deck planking as it grabs quick and is soft to sand so no hard edges as you can get with supper glue

SUPER' PHATIC
..High penertrating yellow aliphatic glue for close fitting pre-assembled joints. Drys fast and bonds wood, foam and plastic. Waterproof when set and produces tougher joints than superglue

ALIPHATIC RESIN Professional yellow wood glue use with hardwoods. Sands better than PVA and will take a stain. Sets at low temp, water resistant, faster grab time

Might be - the amylase enzyme breaks down starches into sugars. Was the glue sweet-tasting? ;-)
