Futaba 2.4ghz T6EX
« on: July 12, 2008, 09:08:24 pm »

The UK importer of Futaba has, I understand acted on behalf of the Futaba parent company, and issued a wholesale recall of:

Futaba 2.4ghz T6EX - the affected units DO NOT have an 'I' sticker on the base. Quite literally a small circular sticker with an 'I' on it.

If you have one of these units get in touch with the outlet that you acquired it from for the beginning of the exchange process.

The letters announcing this recall should have been received by dealers Friday 11th July 2008.

No other units are covered by this recall/exchange.

I have seen and read the notice, but haven't committed it to memory. For more details contact your dealer.

Do not contact the admin team here! They will have no more details than I have laid out here.

Andy

The information circulated to official UK dealers supercedes that notice.

Personal or grey imports are not covered by the recall i.e. you're on your own.

Following received via Model Boats:

Exchange of early Futaba 6EX 2.4GHz transmitters
Press Release from Ripmax, 15th July 2008
We are pleased to announce that with immediate effect we are instigating a full exchange programme for all early 6EX 2.4GHz transmitters supplied by Ripmax. As we have widely publicised, a small number of early 6EX 2.4GHz transmitters had been incorrectly coded, which could have caused problems if two of these sets had been in operation together. The actions we took at the time meant that any potential issues were resolved. However, we have taken the decision that the only 100% secure course of action long term is to remove all of the early transmitters from the market and replace them with updated transmitters.
As we are now well into the flying season we want to ensure that owners of these transmitters do not miss out due to their transmitters being on their way back to us. To avoid these possible delays, the exchange will be carried out via model shops, where owners in the local area will bring in their old transmitter and will in exchange receive the new replacement, all customers will have to pre-register for the exchange.
For full details of the exchange programme please visit the Ripmax website at www.ripmax.com. At this web address you will be able to register for the programme by completing a simple online form. For those without web access, please write to Ripmax at 6EX Exchange Programme, 241 Green Street, Enfield, Middlesex, EN3 7SJ, providing your full name and address, contact phone number, Ripmax serial number/s of your set/s, and details of the model shop you would like to collect your replacement transmitter/s from.
Please note that shops will NOT hold stock, but will be sent the required number of new transmitters to exchange within 10 working days of receipt of completed registration forms.

I've only had one glitch with the 6EX where the receiver lost it's pairing with the transmitter, possibly because of a too-quick radio test sequence of power up - test - power down. Does anyone know if this problem is covered by the recall? (Very inconvenient when the radio is buried under the foc'sle!).

There's a better than average chance that you've experienced the issue covered by the recall - nonetheless ALL T6EXs apart from the very late release 'I' stickered ones are covered by the recall.

Hi Boris, like you I purchased my set over the internet (Howes) but did not attempt to involve them in the situation. I went to the Ripmax site as advised above and filled in the online application form, giving my local model shop's address as the place to send the replacement. I now await notification that the new set has been sent and in the mean time have the use of the radio. Maybe an e-mail to Ripmax may help you, somehow I don't think this will be a quick operation ! :embarrassed:

Looks very much like Mr Futaba has taken a leaf out of Mr Gates' book i.e. change things that ain't broke (e.g. frame rate and logic voltage); charge an arm and a leg for them and don't whatever you do test them out properly first.................. let the punters do your Beta testing for you.

I've had to buy one of these sets for testing our units - over £150 and they couldn't even be bothered fitting NiMH cells (would you believe 700mA NiCADs for both the Tx and Rx?). At least mine had the treasured 'I' sticker; not much consolation for a ratchet throttle and two auxiliary channels that aren't much good for anything except switching on a lighting circuit apiece.

Overall marks "5/10 - could do much better". I've seen nothing here to make me want to change from Hitec.

I completed the form on the Ripmax website some days ago and to exchange at my local model shop and have heard nothing whatsoever from Ripmax, not even an acknowledgement  :(.  Does anyone have an email address for Ripmax, please  :).  There are no contact details on their website - so much for customer care  :(.

Thanks for that link FLJ - it would appear that you cannot contact them by email.  I telephoned them and was informed that if my details were submitted before Thursday of last week they would not have received them - it was a bad line and I did not go into the whys and wherefores but did as I was told and resubmitted.  Oh dear, what a service.   :( :( :(.  I presume that, should I have an accident due to a faulty Tx, Ripmax would be liable?????
