Childrens model paddle boat
« on: August 03, 2008, 08:18:41 am »

Good morning all, ...............  Ahoy there and all that!
We have some young children who want to build a simple boat. I remember on several occasions seeing  in the model boat press a small paddler driven by an elastic band and the hull being made of pipe insulation foam. Do any of you good fellows know more???           {-) Basic instructions for kids!!!! {-)
These are the model boaters of tommorrow. Please help.
Thanks

Hi Pirate,
I think you are talking about the kids workshop boat they made at Weymouth Model Boat Show,I did ask a while back if anyone could put up a plan on the Forum ( the MB one I think) but I got no replies.

Good luck,
Len.

Have you considered Lego stuff?

I recently bought their City Lines cargo boat - I won't bore you with how I made it R/C - and it is fun!  It is also unsinkagurgle!  I pushed the thing fully under water, waited for the air to all come out from under the deck, then watched as it gently returned to the surface.

A simple prop, shaft, motor and small battery makes it into a great little 'toy' with all the flexibility that the Lego system offers.

Geoff

Thanks for your replies.
Have considered many options but would like to build a few craft of one design that will introduce water craft to young ones, thus you are right it was a festival event where I saw reported the very 'Paddler' in question and it is still the one I have in mind. So will use my brains and ingenuity (i.e. ask the wife) and make what I think will look right. After all what could go wrong????!!!!

Hi Pirate,
At another Weymouth Model Boat Show they made Galleons out of Foam Pipe Lagging with a sail made from a plastic carrier bag.
We made and sailed these at Dover MBA for a fun competition and we had around 30 on our lake.
The plan appeared in one of the mags I can't remember which.

I have seen one made from old plastic drinks bottles.
It is on the same website as the sailboat made from old bottles.

Sorry not sure where.
