A new model shop in N Wales
« on: August 13, 2008, 10:29:54 pm »

I have just found a new model shop in Rhos-on-Sea.

It is called Clays Corner and is on Rhos Road near the prom.
They have a limited supply of kits in stock but this includes a couple of Robbe/Groupner including the Antje.

They have
a selection of RTR boats, helicotpers.
small selection of airfix
railway models and materials

They say they are getting
Humbrol stand
balsa and other materials

They say that they will then see how it grows.

May be worth a look for the Guys in N Wales.

If you are in the area, I can recomend Porthmadog for model shops too.

philsworkbench.blogspot.com/2008/07/porthmadog-model-shops.html

Three of the shops are mainly railways but Porthmadog Models does some boat plastic kits plus a range of materials. Worth a look anyway.

No special passes required, even for English people  O0

I was there last month chasing trains - all faithfully witten up on my blog - travellingphilbury.blogspot.com/search/label/Wales

There were some interesting boats in the harbour too:

I reckon George Turner 10 quid kit could be a good basis for the Harbour master launch behind the RIB in this shot.

you guys are lucky. the trend in my  area of  NZ seems to be model shops closing down and the ones open raising prices to a captured audience. pays to shop around though like recently i saw a throw away type knife for 99c in the local hardware store and the same thing in the model store was $6.99.

True - shopping around can often give you bargains. Watch out though, the trend in the UK is for less shops, not more. This is because for the big ticket items (model locomotives, bot kits etc.) the buyers tend to save a couple of quid, and it's oftne no more than this once you include postage, buying online from a box-shifter or eBay. .The only stuff they get from the model shop is tiny bits with no profit margin.

The shop then closes and they moan that there aren't any model shops. The messages is "Use it or lose it."

For UK modellers, I'm put details of each model shop I visit on my blog - philsworkbench.blogspot.com/search/label/Model%20shops - as a lot of these guys don't have web sites or if they do you don't get to see what the shop is like from the site.

thats a great idea phil with the blog details. there arent any models shops around here so i have to go to a shop 80km away but i do use it a lot. probably more than i should. but hey if its for a model boat or train i'm afraid the phone  and power bills have to wait. ;)

Phil, you will recognise the lifeboat.   I have just looked at your blog, and could I suggest adding the post code to your entries.   Pete M

Good point about the postcode - trouble is I rarely know what it is.
