Also have to admit to having an allotment, in fact I,m quite proud of mine. I,ve invested a lot of time and hard work to get  my little oasis.   :)

I can do you a nice line in wheelie bins for planting your wurzels in...you can just wheel them about and follow the sun.

I'll get me coat then, shall I?

Having nothing to do this boxing day, (not allowed in workshop on boxing day) thought I would put a bit of water and Growmore on this thread to see what happens  O0

I have three allotments and some chickens, sad or what, no wonder the boats take so long to build  {-)

Alan, the wife and I have a reasonable size garden and a allotment. New season coming and its time is to work out what to grow this year, ground dug, muck put on in the autumn, so I can sit back for a wile.
I must be a lucky chap as I can spend as much time as want playing in the shed or up in my model den. I even get cups of tea sent up to me, and if ime a good boy a piece of home made cake.  O0   She does draw the line to eating lunch or diner on my own.  <*<   Oh well cant have everything. Yes we do get on really well and are very close. Sonic
P.S 21st December was the time to plant your garlic..  :-))

Here's a poem for the 'Green Fingered'. Found in the gardeners part of an old Hospital building which was being demolished.

Hear the birds song of freedom
Listen to the bees hum of myrth
A mans best spot is his garden
It is the greatest spot on earth

Hear the birds song of freedom
Listen to the bees hum of myrth
A mans best spot is his garden
It is the greatest spot on earth

Surely this is a variation of the original;

The kiss of the sun for pardon,
The song of the birds for mirth,
One is nearer God's heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth.

Malc,

I am sure you are right, as I found the variation, painted on a hardwood board. I often wondered as to the origin.

Thank you for this information.

I first saw this poem on a stone tablet at the head of a series of formal ponds and waterfalls all set in a very beautiful rose garden at Emmerentia, Johannesburg in the 1980's.  It's stayed with me ever since.

I think that both Tony52's version and the one that I saw are both rather nice.

I'm no gardener myself although sometimes I think that I should be?  It has to be a good way of getting some relaxation?

Neither am I a gardener. Some how or other the female gardeners in the household do allow me to perform certain tasks in the garden. Guess what, weeding, grass cutting, trimming hedges etc.

Anything to do with pretty flowers is definitely out of the question for me, other than digging the holes and adding fertilizer/mulch, under supervision.

A few years ago I broke the rule, took myself to the garden centre and bought myself a plant. A beautiful Peony. Unfortunately on the first planting a cat dug it up. I re-planted it and hey presto, I now grow beautiful flowers.

Seriously I hope to spend more time in the garden in future years, as it is a fabulous way of relieving stress, subject to a self time management system.
