Competition - Best figures seen on a model boat.
« on: September 06, 2008, 10:22:21 am »

I would like to submit my entry to the cartoon competition.

The guy on the Starboard side looks OK, but the guy taking a leak off the bow looks a bit "iffy"  {-) {-)

Seriously though, do you guys fancy having a competition for the best figures on a model?  If the response is positive, I'll put up a prize of one of our new RC Model Workshop sound systems (Engine Sound, Amplifier and 4 Ohm speaker, value = £50.00).

Martin might be kind enough to make the rules and nominate a judge?

I think it's a cracking idea, Malc.

This is a subject that's gone around and around, with no definitive answer, as it's all down to personal choice. You look at a miniature person and instantly know whether it's right or wrong. What are the parameters?  What exactly is not quite right?  Can it be altered, just that little tweak to get it right.

Take my example of the one penny figures from China. It's all down the wrong colours and  sizes of the people's heads. (my opinion!)

Good subject for a thread of it's own, Martin.

OK - I've PM'd Martin asking him to set up a competition.

Granwood

My sincere apologies for the way your thread has been accidentally hijacked. I have asked Martin to arrange to have it cleaned up and a new thread started.

My best regards, Malc

Not mine but one of the best characters I've seen on a steam model.

Just in case Bernhard doesn't enter I'll do it for him.

Well hello sailor!  {-) {-) {-)

I still haven't got a clue what the competition rules are, how long it runs for, or who's judging, but please submit your entries below.  We'll sort out the details as we go along.

The prize, as stated earlier, is a RC Model Workshop sound system, comprising engine sound unit, amplifier and 4 Ohm loudspeaker.

Best of luck.

I think it should be something along the lines of:

1) You must have assembled the figures yourself

2) You must have painted the figures yourself.

3) The figure must be fitted to a working or static model boat.

4) You can only submit your own work.

5) You can submit up to three entries of either a group or an individual figure.

We could collect entries up to a certain date then have a vote.

Just some groundwork.

Anyway here are two entries from me.  One is the u-boat bridge crew in 1/72nd and the other is the Ben Ain Captain in 1/35th:

Some of my meagre efforts. First is from my 1/12th scale Tyne lifeboat, the second from my 1/35th scale Steam drifter build.

One or two real characters in that lot.  Keep them coming!

I'm not having anything to do with the rules for this competition, that's up to Martin, but I would like to think that 'character' of the figure may influence the judge - whoever that may be?

Well here we go with the St Canute crew. The Captain is a sweetie but do not mess with crewman Harry 'the hammer' or Bill the 'basher', boiler man. Cheers Graham.

Thankyou I agree with you on the following two points and feel they should be enough.

Boat owner must have painted the figures themselves.

The figure must be fitted to a working or static model boat.
