Pics from Burton Fireboat Funday
« on: September 07, 2008, 04:46:26 pm »

Hi,

here are some photos from the Aerokits Fireboat regatta held at the Burton on Trent Club's water at Branston Water Park on 7th September 2008. The appalling weather we have been having meant not as many boats as expected turned up, but there was a good show from those who did!

For those interested in 2.4Ghz technology, there were at least three of these boats operating on the frequency - no range problems at all.

Fireboat 77 not only used 2.4 ghz, but also a brushless motor and LiPo battery. The performance was outstanding, and virtually silent - ecept for the sound effects from an MP3 player.

Well not long back from the Fireboat Funday at Branston Water Park , hosted by Burton on Trent MBC. and what a great day both myself and son had, as Barriew mentions the weather was a bit dodgy to begin with but on the Sunday No rain while I was there , A number of Fireboats and a few other models were there being run and displayed, Some nice I.C engined Models also being run and not a single Duck , goose or Swan seemed in the least bit Bothered and they came quite close at times, to the point I think a few of the ducks were entered for the boat maneuvering course, (Not sure how they did.).
From what I could gather it is hoped that this becomes a yearly event , if so I Will be going again.

A few of my pics.

Well to all those who didn't come due to weather forecasts - shame on you! It was excellent weather, no rain and sunny most of the day!

Thanks Barrie for the comments above, but I will remain modest ;D anyone who is debating on whether to get a brushless motor or not my advice would be to go for it! You don't need LiPo batteries of course but to keep the weight down it might be advisable.

Yes, excellent day allround and I can't wait for next year! Check out www.modelfireboats.com if you want to join in next year! I'll be updating the site shortly to include this years pics.

In The long Build's pics, to the left of Fireboat 91 in pic DSCF4474.JPG, there looks like the back end of a Sea Hornet that has been vastly altered.. Does anyone have any pics of that model.. pleeeeeaaaase...   :-\

This is not much better - sorry was concentrating on the fireboats :) I think I heard the owner say he had lengthened the rear hatch so he could get everything in that compartment - but don't quote me. If you want a larger version of this PM me.

Hi
I own the Sea Hornet that you are talking about.  My other half is an Aerokits nut and bought me a Sea Hornet.  I said I wanted an Italian speedboat so he set about mofiying it for me.  He moved the rear cockpit forward and lengthened to hatch to accomodate nichad battery packs.

It has twin Graupner speed 600 motors and a Ripmax water cooled speed controller.  It is twin screws with brass prop shop props and twin rudders.  It is veneered with mahogany veneer.

For more detail and photo's please go to the fireboat website, photo gallery and to the Aerokits section.

Marie

PS. I tried to attach photo's but they were too big and I don't know how to get them to an acceptable size.
