Hi Pete
I use Staples Really Useful Boxes which come in loads of sizes, for most of my storage, though I do leave the lid off the box with the SLA batteries in when its in the shed.

I stuff them in the back of the car, nicads, nimhs, lipos, they're all the same.

You will only believe this is stupid IF you believe all the stupid scare stories, simple fact of the matter is I've been modelling for 13 years, and have only ever have one pack vent on me, and have never had one fail while in use.

I know someone who used to work for Al's Models, he was telling me about how they were throwing li-po's around, over charging and discharging them, and they were all fine.

All you have to do is make sure you look after the batteries properly, and don't short them etc, and they will be fine.

I have one of these hemp bag things, I put the packs in facing alternate ways, and go off to the races.

If you wanted something more substancial, a small toolbox from B&Q will suffice, or a quality street tin with a plastic bag or paper lining

I think it depends on what batteries are involved.  I carry normal AA NiMH cells in special little plastic boxes designed for the job and bought off ebay.   These go in slots in the foam inner in a cheap (B&Q) flight case with the transmitter etc.   I don't use LiPo batteries, but if I did I think I'd consider carrying each one in a fire-retardant bag then put them in a rigid outer case, particularly if carrying them in the car fully-charged.   They are susceptible to damage and I'm told, spectacular if they do catch fire.  I recently saw a CCTV recording of a laptop battery catching fire - most impressive!  They're rigid cased and less easily damaged than the soft cased batteries generally available for models.   BTW the one thing not to do with charged cells of any type is to carry them in your pocket with your loose change.   The area of skin near the pocket can get very hot, very quickly when one shorts via the metal coins.   I know, I've done it  :(

Li-Po's VERY RARELY EXPLODE

All these scare stories are rubbish

They are based on the fact that a few have exploded, and because of this everyone gets scared.

I once took one to school to show my electronics teacher who had never seen one before. I walked around with it (not a small one either, 7.4v 2500mAh) all day, with it in my top pocket. Guess what, my chest is still in one piece. The same battery was dropped when I had it at school, and has survived more than a few dings with my shockie. It still works perfectly, and is still in perfect balance

Look after batteries, they'll last you ages.
