Boating lakes in London area

Do any of you know where I can sail my SQ which has an IC engine ? or am I going to have to convert to electric ?

There is a boating pond on Hampstead Heath amongst several ponds Known as Highgate Ponds ( No. 16 onthe map )

Dont know if I/C is allowed.

NO PEOPLE JUST TURN UP WITH THEIR BOATS THERE IS A CLUB THAT RACES YACHTS ON THE 1ST AND 3RD SUNDAYS OF THE MONTH BUT EVEN THEN OTHER PEOPLE CAN USE THE POND

DickyD, already spoken to Hampstead Heath & Victoria Park, no IC's allowed(something about being tooo noisy ???)

AL 1,  Do they allow IC's ?

You can use IC on the model boating lake in Victoria Park, Hackney

When I spoke to Tower Hamlets last week, they said no IC boats, too noisy, is this a new policy or did they tell me wrong.

There is a dedicated model boating lake in Victoria park, you do have to park in the car park by St Mark's gate and walk over to the pond, but I can ausure you, you can run IC there. I know this because we run regatta's there nearly every sunday and we have a lot of IC powered boats. It's maybe that the council were refering to the boating lake where they have row boats pedalo's and fisher type persons. This is the lake on the other side of the park. If you need directions of how to get in let me know and I will forward a map.

mr boat, nothing wrong with being spoiled for choice.  one local pond near where I live has been taken over by (ahem) anglers >>:-(  >>:-(  >>:-(

sailing my Nord Icelandia and the water bailiff said "oi you can't use that ****ing thing in here!" in as many words, and nord icelandia is electric! however i can sail at several other lakes near where I live and the canal too

How things have changed! I remember going to Vicky park as a lad ,when they raced tethered hydroplanes there .There was also a very popular lake (now gone I beleve) at Wanstead Flats ,very near to where I lived.Spent many happy hours with my boats there !And another at Hollow ponds Whipps Cross,also now gone I believe).All allowed ic engines .Mind you ,the elec motors of those days (1960's) werent very good ,and battery development has come a long way.

Hi rodders.......i used to live at the thatched house and used those ponds for years......unfortunately you are right about them being lost. The large concrete sided pond at wanstead flats is now two ponds  both of which have been turned into bird sanctuaries with islands in the middle of them :'(  .
    The other large round pond known as the bomb crater was where forest gate boat club used to run . Slope sided and wadeable it was an ideal model lake , it is now dry , or it was the last time i saw it :'(     
             Do you remember vic from craftex at the thatched house a model makers paradise especially if you were into boats.....i remember the large petrol powered
boat vic had called barbara which he used to strap onto the roof of his austin a40.

Yes I do remember Vic ! Nice guy . Bought many of my bits there over many years! A real 'modellers' shop! His wife took over the running of it for a few yrs after he died. I used to live off Cathall road.
       Do you remember the guy who frequented the 'flats pond ,who had the paddle steamer ,and other lovely boats!There was a real community sometimes down there at the w/ends.Is the flying field still used off Centre road? My brother used to fly there.
        I remember he bought a R/C transmitter (single button macgregor ,one push to send signal for 'left' and two pushes for 'right')from a s/hand shop in Walthamstow,and all the other bits (inc a clockwork escapement)from the now defunct Job Stocks in Walthamstow ..what a great shop that was! Hey Ho........progress eh?.........ah!! memories...
  Was the bomb crater lake at the side of capel rd?? If so ,I remember seeing for the first time ,a Amphicar in the water on that lake ,mustve been about 1970's I was intrigued ! Never ever seen one in the water anywhere since!

Not too sure about the flying field....probably not , the elf n safety brigade will probably say its too close to a main road......yes the bomb crater was just of capel road , one of my sea urchins is probably still in there somewhere.....forest gate model boat clubs water , my club number was fg7 early days O0

          I used to live in gurney road and could walk through the back doubles to the pond in about 25 minutes , and you are right there was a community spirit when it was in full swing...

           hey ho.....live in the depths of the essex riviera now and belong to watt tyler club in basildon.....
