Anyone know where to find these?
« on: September 17, 2008, 07:59:21 pm »

I remember back in the day I used to use these ball joint type connectors for hooking up servos to control arms (see attached pic)
My local model shop doesn't stock them for some reason...anyone know where I can find them? I need six really miniature ones to fit onto 1/16th brass wire from the servo.

Cheers,

Rich

All these types of balljoints have been used for years on R/C cars for steering, any good hobby shop selling parts for Tamiya, Kyosho, Associated etc should be able to supply them.

Thanks gentlemen, for all the leads on where to find these little devils. I'm allowed out tomorrow with my pocket money to go buy some, so if I take the good woman shopping in Hastings there's a good model shop there that has a r/c car club.

Thanks again,

Rich

If you are in Hastings, I can also suggest ModelZone in Eastbourne or best of all, Sussex Model Centre in Worthing. The ball links you're after are a standard model aeroplane fitting, any shop selling model plane gear is likely to have them in stock.

The above are my 'local' shops, a mere 1000 miles or so away!

Oh my gawd Ron...I could drive you there, but it's name?   :( Hastings Model and Mechanical Supplies...I think. Not more than a few steps down from Warrior Square railway station.

David, I didn't realise that ModelZone were still in operation. I'll have a look tomorrow...when she's done dragging me around the clothes shops.  >>:-(
SMC is a great place, only about 3/4 hour drive for me...I used to spend a fortune in there. Is it any wonder I got divorced??  ::)

Cheers guys,

Modelzone was still there last time we were in the country, back in May. I always make sure we visit SMC during our trips to the UK, and I usually end up spending far more than I had planned!

If you're looking for somewhere in Hastings you could try

Streamline Sales  01424 442485
101 Sedlescombe Road North, St. Leonards On Sea, TN37 7EJ

I've bought similar stuff from them in the past I think.  They also have an ebay shop.

I don't know how long ago you went to SMC but they moved a few years ago and are now on the main road out of Worthing. The shop is on the left as you leave Worthing and the frontage is bright yellow and can be seen for some distance before you get there, they have a small car park at the rear.

Thanks for that Alan, I'd have gone to the old address (Tellville Gate?)

I'm away to the doc first, then g/friend will chomping at the bit to go shopping, so it'll be ModelZone first. If that fails, then Hastings, then Worthing...three model shops in a day? Hope she's brought her cheque book and pen...and not a Blankety Blank one!

Cheers all,

Rich

Broadwater Road ois the current location of SMC, on your right as you head out of Worthing. The car park is VERY small, room for 3-4 cars at most. I parked in a side road opposite last time we were there.

I gave U-33 clear directions in my post, the shop is on the LEFT (that is on the port side) as you leave Worthing

Mea culpa, you're absolutely, right, what on earth was I thinking of? I suspect I confused myself by wondering whether anyone would consider heading south from Worthing!

You can't expect too much from someone who lives in a country where the elk and reindeer outnumber the people, anyway.

Just as an Aside, ModelZone in Eastbourne have now stopped stocking model boat's and parts (They used to have an excellent selection of fittings :( )
Seems its all R/C aircraft and die cast cars there now.

Shame about the Eastbourne shop, not been there in recent months but I always made a point of visiting when in the area. Looks like it's fallen into line with most other shops in the Modelzone empire which are only one step removed from toyshops in my view!

The Brighton one has gone the same way, they don't stock any R/C in there at all hardly.
Doubled the size of the shop but the stock is purely Die cast models, a few plastic kits and then all pre-pack train sets.

ModelZone used to be ok, but in Sussex now the only option really is the one in Worthing, or Hastings, and living in between the two its about a two and a half hour round trip to go to those, which makes it a lot more convenient just to buy online.

Shame really :(

Well, I live a very long way from either (Finland) but we come to England once a year or so to visit my father, who lives in Eastbourne (I know, but at least he was born there), so the Sussex shops are the nearest thing to local for me. Modelzone used to have some good stuff; I'd usually spend plenty there and return with a bag full of goodies. Still, I suppose they know where the profits are to be found.

There is still a decent shop in Bognor http://www.trainsandboatsandplanes.co.uk/contactus.htm and Squires is just round the corner too. King George V's last words may have been B****r Bognor, but for modelling supplies it's hard to beat!
